Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Malaysia with your pet:
  • Malaysia is a high risk country for rabies. Before receiving an import permit to return to the U.S., travelers must obtain 2 pictures of their pet's front teeth, a CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record, a serologic titer from an approved laboratory and a passport photo of the owner. Once these items are obtained, apply for a permit for your pet to return to the U.S. at this link. For further guidance on returning to the U.S. with your pet from a high risk country, contact the CDC directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov
  • Obtain an Import Permit from the Director General, Department of Veterinary Services, Malaysia, or to the State Vet Departments. The current Import Permit Fee is RM5 per pet. Permits are valid for 30 days from date of issue. Contact Veterinary Services directly via email at pro@dvs.gov.my for more information.
  • Four-legged visitors also require a valid rabies vaccination and health certificate from a licensed veterinarian in the country of origin.
  • Pets will be inspected by a veterinarian at the port of entry, which includes a fee on the day.

Quarantine Information

Pets from Brunei Darussalam, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore or the United Kingdom do not require quarantine if all the above requirements are met. However, pets entering from all other countries are quarantined for 7 days after arrival.
