Great with a caveat

We are locals and go here relatively frequently. It is great for dogs and the beer is very good. Recently (July 2025) they have temporarily closed their indoor beer garden space (which was also pet friendly) so the outdoor space is all you have to work with. It can be hot if you can't get a shaded table. Also we find the music is more than a little loud which seemed to disturb our dog. But an oasis for dog toting beer lovers

Pretty good despite initial misgivings

When we checked in we were read a riot act: don't leave dog in room, if it barks and they have to reimburse other customers they will charge us etc. Not very welcoming. Not to mention how do you take advantage of a complementary breakfast if you can't leave the pooch in the room? After further discussions with other staff we found that this was likely the result of a new staff member not being good at welcoming dogs and subsequent staff were super friendly (and apologized for the other guy). They gave us a tag to put on our door so other staff knew to knock gently, gave a treat and water bowls, and also they told us that the "reimbursement" issue is only for very persistent barking over long periods. So it was ok. The breakfast was good too!

Great time on the pet deck

In summer this place has an area that is pet friendly called the Pet Deck. The staff are very pet friendly and quickly learned our dog's name and would come by and give her scratches and pets and call her by name (doesn't hurt that our dog is amazingly charismatic :-)). I think the whole idea of this area is that people who are going to sit here are dog friendly and this was most definitely the case for us. We sat and everyone wanted to say hello to our lab! And she loved it :-) Note we did not try the food so my review for food is 5 because there was no "N/A" rating option and I didn't want to lower the overall rating

Decent for pets but limitations

This hotel is well positioned across from Citadel Hill so a relatively easy access to pee and poop area. However it is a steep hill so if your dog has issues on hills beware (it is Halifax so you'll be climbing hills anyway!). As for internal policies there are some caveats. You're not supposed to leave your dog unattended which makes accessing the free breakfast buffet difficult. (The buffet itself is ok but they charge extra ($6 for bacon or sausage!)

Also, they have a rooftop restaurant on the weekends (Fri-Sat) which means the restaurant that does room service is closed. So if you want to eat in your room (say if it is rainy and you can't sit with your pooch on a patio anywhere) you either violate the "not leaving your pet unattended" rule or order Skip the Dishes. I felt constrained. This was a visit in the summer and there was a very loud open air hip hop show next door which went on all day and agitated my dog. The hotel staff of course had no control over that but they did know it was going to happen and could have warned us.

Great place for puppy

A nice quiet hotel with a lot of green space for play. Currently (July 2025) there are a lot of workers staying there so there is a bit of noise in the morning when they're all getting into their trucks and heading off. (Otherwise the workers were no problem.) In general it was very good for the dog and they are dog friendly. We could leave our dog in the room while we went to the restaurant and there was no problem. They also cleverly put us at the end of the main floor which is surrounded mostly by rooms for maintenance and housekeeping purposes. Also the main floor rooms have direct access to the outside which was super handy for pee breaks in the morning and at night.

A great place

It is safe to say that the entire town of Saint Andrews is dog friendly! They even have poo bags and receptacles on lamp posts. This resort is no different. They even have a house dog! They gave us a little welcome gift although they were vegan treats so I'm into minds about that. There are a lot of places to pee and to walk and we are definitely returning to this place since it is also a fantastic resort although a little pricey.
