Confusing at check in

Budget Inn Fort Stockton

What did I love about my stay, the room was large, had everything I needed, and was squeaky clean. I felt very safe all night, I am traveling alone with a small dog so that is important. What did I not love? Well, as the first reviewer said, there's really no place for the dogs to pee or potty. We made do with that. However, check-in was really strange. I had called the night before to ask what the dog fee was. The lady on the phone said it was $10. So when I showed up suddenly it was $20. I said but you said $10 and that's why I chose your motel because you said it was $10 and the others in the area are $20. She said okay you can pay $10 if you pay me cash. Well I don't carry cash and she wouldn't take a credit card for the $10, but she said well go to an ATM and then you can give me $10. I said okay.

Then a younger woman showed up, and she said no it's $20, here is the sign that said that. I said but I was told over the phone it is 10. She said well the lady that told you that was wrong and it is 20 and here it says so on the sign. I said but, I couldn't read your sign 300 miles ago when I made the reservation. She said well it is 20. I said if you charge me $20 I will put in a dispute. She finally agreed to charge me the $10 that I was told over the phone. Meanwhile the lady who had told me $10 over the phone was just standing there looking sheepish. I have a feeling that this is a game that they play frequently. I checked my credit card statement online and they did only charge me the $10 but beware that they play games like this. All in all, I had a very good night's sleep, and I went to Mi Casita restaurant very close by with my dog and had a great meal. It's very close to Walmart that has the best gas prices in town for the next leg of your journey.

Highly recommended for dogs and their people.

Pali Wine Co.

I was looking for dog friendly things to do while I was passing through Lompoc. Pali Winery was listed on Bring Fido so we drove over. Our host Henry could not have been friendlier or more welcoming! He explained what the wines were, and then gave some treats to my dog. And we were so thrilled to see that there is actually beautiful grass in front of the tasting room! My little Dazzle didn't have to lay on concrete or dirt. It was hot in the afternoon so Henry moved a table and chair to a shady spot on the grass, and promptly brought a bowl of fresh water out for my dog. The wine was delicious, and the experience was really wonderful. It was wonderful to relax and enjoy my wine while watching my dog enjoy a grassy area. Henry also gave me some tips on places to eat in the area and other things to do. I'd give this winery 10 bones if I could.
