Best Pet Store in Portland

Fish & Bone

We love this store! We visit this store every time we are in Portland, even when I go without the dogs I make a stop for their favorite treats. There's a great variety of apparel, supplies, prepackaged treats, and homemade treats. It's a must stop for anyone in Portland.

This Trolley Does Not Allow Dogs

Intown Trolley Company

We called to get the 24hour manager approval for our upcoming day trip and the manager told us that they only allow service animals and they don't know how they ended up on this website.

A Great One Night Stay

Hampton Inn & Suites Washington DC-Navy Yard

We booked this hotel for the proximity to the baseball stadium and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was. We paid extra for a room with a park view, which I would not recommend. We were on the 7th floor and all we could see was the parking lot and the very top of the stadium. I have a feeling we got a lower floor due to the fact that we had dogs and they wanted us to have better access to the ground floor for bathroom breaks. It might be different if on one of the top floors but if you can't guarantee the floor level it's not worth the money. The room was big with a really big bathroom and huge shower. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever lied on. Hotel staff was super friendly and were very nice to our dogs. I believe we were the only ones with dogs at the hotel because we were very popular whenever we went through the lobby. I'm unsure if the rooftop bar was dog-friendly or not. I was going to ask but the pups were so tired after a long day of adventures that we ended up staying in the room instead.

My only problem with the hotel (which is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 stars) is that I was mysteriously charged $240 from the rooftop bar. When we checked in we charged the room to my debit card which included the price of the room, tax, and $50 deposit in case the dogs damaged the room. As we only stayed for one night, we checked out the next morning and opted for them to email our receipt. We got home from our trip on a Friday which is when I did my bills and discovered the overcharge. I immediately called and the manager who helped me was very nice and did not make me go any extreme lengths to prove that the charge was not ours like I had expected. I asked how this could have happened since, as I said before, the dogs and I stayed in the room while my husband attended the Nationals game so we never even went to the roof. It turns out the charge was the result of someone saying "charge my room" and either saying our room number or the bartender mixing up the numbers. Either way I feel there should be a better system, such as providing your room card. The overcharge resulted in my bank account not being reimbursed until after the weekend, which was faster than the 4-5 business days I was originally told because my bank called the hotel to speed up the process (as suggested by the manager) so I could make my student loan payment in time.

Besides the bill mix up, which should definitely have its payment policy re-evealuated, the hotel was great and we will definitely be back.

A Quick Stop for a Fast Lunch

Good Stuff Eatery

We stopped here for lunch after visiting the Capitol and before heading home. They had outdoor tables with umbrellas that provided plenty of shade on a hot day. As it is a quick service restaurant, no one asked if we wanted water for the dogs. This was not a problem for us, as I always carry plenty of water and a travel bowl. I'm sure if we asked they could have accommodated us, but it's something to keep in mind if you don't normally carry water with you. The food was fast and my husband really liked his burger. We both thought the fries and shake were good, not amazing. I was not a huge fan of my burger though, it was simply average.

Great Stop for Lunch with the Pups

Gordon Biersch Brewery

We headed to the Navy Yard to check into our hotel and grab lunch. Originally we picked a different restaurant to go to but when we showed up it was closed. So we started back towards the hotel and stumbled upon the brewery where we saw people sitting on the patio with their dogs. They sat us at a high table on the patio while leaving a table or two between each group that had dogs, which I appreciated since you're never sure how your dog will interact with another dog. Our waitress then came out to great us while bringing a bowl of water for the dogs that we didn't even have to ask for. She was very friendly and was excellent with our dogs. The food was delicious and came out fast. Definitely worth a stop for lunch.

The Pups Adventure in History

National Mall

I have been to DC more than a dozen times but this was our first time bringing the dogs. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating to them. We were able to bring our dogs up to the Lincoln Memorial, we just had to hold them. And even though there are multiple signs saying you can't go into the water at the WWII Memorial, the park ranger let my dogs splash in the water as long as they remained on their leash and stayed next to the stairs due to the high heat. There are also many shady areas perfect for breaks. We then headed to the FDR Memorial for the ultimate photo spot in front of FDR's dog Fala. Unfortunately my dogs were terrified of the giant dog statue but I was able to keep them distracted long enough to snap a picture. As it was a 96 degree day with high humidity, the people at the FDR Memorial gift shop let us carry in our dogs to cool down in the AC as we looked for a souvenir to commemorate their first vacation.
