Attentive Staff and Great Food
Mayfel'sLoved this place. We enjoyed fabulous Louisiana style food, sidewalk dining, and a very attentive staff. They immediately brought two water bowls for the dogs and the dogs hadn't even arrived yet. They were all very welcoming. I can't say enough about how good my jambalaya was. Others enjoyed their seafood gumbo, shrimp sandwich and Ceasar salad. Nobody minded that we sat outside chatting long after we finished our lunches and they were closing.
Large Dog OK. No one asked
La Quinta by Wyndham Memphis DowntownAll around great stay. Room was lovely. Awesome shower. Good security and no fee for parking. Great location a few blocks from Beale Street. No one asked what size dog. Our giant standard poodle slept comfortably. Two very small grass areas for potty, though, but he managed. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.
Service was so so
Cafe OleShrimp fajitas and fish tacos were great. Outdoor seating was a large area and nice. It wasn't crowded, but Staff left a bit to be desired. They didn't know what dark beers they had, couldn't make an Old Fashioned because "they didn't have bitters" (not in an Old Fashioned), had to hunt down the menus and check. A 70 year old woman (me) tripped and fell due to a step in the dark doorway and no one noticed. Maybe just a bad night.
Great All Around
Brother Juniper'sTasty and unique breakfast menu. Attentive waiters. Good location next to University of Memphis. Staff loved on our dog. For $1.50 they made scrambled eggs for him, and complementary slice of bacon. The outdoor area with about 7 tables was pretty closed in, but very separate from the indoor dining.
