Wonderful quick hike to top of the falls
Pulpit FallsShort hike - less than a mile round trip. Excellent option for a quick break to stretch your legs or get a bit of fresh air. Beautiful falls especially during the spring thaw.
The entrance is unmarked on Rte 10 (however Google Maps and the ilk) will navigate you directly to the side of the road parking area on the Rte 10 south side. Entrance is on Rte 10 north side of the road. Read http://www.nhfamilyhikes.com/hikes.php?hike=Pulpit%20Falls&from=HBN-P for trail directions.
Lovely, short hike
Doane's FallsWell marked trail in or near the Tully Lake reserve and campground. Trails are well marked and excellently maintained. Beautiful views and ample parking in the various lots.
Not the safest I’ve felt
Red Roof Inn PLUS+ & Suites Naples Downtown-5th Ave SFine as a road trip stop (though not that close to the highway). Missing some basic room amenities (hair dryer, iron, etc). Lots of restaurants near by. Fantastic water pressure. Reasonable price but just didn’t feel particularly safe - and I’ve stayed in more than my share of dog friendly highway motels.
Great food and outdoor space
Sweet Beet CaféFantastic spot for a farm fresh breakfast or lunch or to take baked goods to go.
Nice big outdoor space with picnic tables.
Lovely rustic room
Bluebird SunapeeLocated in the Lake Sunapee region. Large, clean room recently refreshed. Table & seating for 5 if you opt for take-out. Dog-friendly pub located across the parking lot as well. Equipped with an indoor pool, gigantic rec room, and a game room for families staying here. Large green areas to walk your dog. My pet friendly room at least was at the end of a hallway - minimal traffic past the door is always appreciated. The clerk during my stay couldn’t have been nicer. The 2 MINOR negatives are: no dresser so stays more than 1 night may be less easy to manage and the area itself has nominal cell service ( I only had 1 bar on my personal & work phones on different major carriers).
A dog, a porch, & a fire pit
Salt Hill Pub ShantyFantastic Irish pub!
Dog review: Brought out a water bowl with ice at the same time as my menu. Friendly, laid back staff and very welcoming to the dog (& me).
People review: Quality pub food and a length assortment of beers and hard ciders on tap as well as bottled/canned. Lovely atmosphere and friendly vibe to the place. Fire pit felt nice on a cool autumn evening. Conveniently located across the parking lot from our dog friendly hotel.
Great Stopover for Road Trips w the Dogs
Quality Inn Jonesville I-77I used to stop wherever I got tired on road trips up & down the east coast. This Quality Inn has become a fixed stop on my trips now. Clean, simple rooms. Easy on & off highway but highway noise dampened by a wall of trees. A large area for the dogs to walk in. Extremely courteous staff especially late, late night and always happy to see my dogs. Outdoor dog motif garden decor is a nice touch. High value and higher convenience.
Come for the hikes and paws for the views
Letchworth State ParkAwesome variety of trails both in views and difficulties. Spent a lovely long weekend hiking and just relaxing on a blanket. If you are going trek some of the more woodsy, less travelled trails, do not forget the tick protection for your dog or the bug spray for you. All trails extremely well blazed and marked.
Nice hotel. Convenient location.
Clarion Pointe HarrisonburgNice, clean, safe hotel with lovely rooms. Conveniently located right off the highway. No longer a Comfort Inn but part of Clarion family. Pet fee (currently) $20 per night (not per pet).
Only negative is the required $50 credit card hold per night for prepaid reservations only.
There’s Economy And Then There’s Here
Econo Lodge Atlanta Airport EastI understand you get what you pay for but this wasn’t even worth that. No hot water — lukewarm at best. Heater blows cool air even when set to maximum heat. Hair dryer does not work b/c it trips the fuse in the plug.
Nice, CLEAN hotel with easy access to highway and attached restaurant.
Holiday Inn Express Greencastle an IHG HotelOne of the nicer hotels at which I have stayed with the dogs. Nice, clean rooms. Interior hallways. Attached pizza restaurant that also serves offers full breakfast menu if you are hungry for more than the included continental breakfast.
Sports
Bokamper's Sports Bar & GrillGreat spot to enjoy sports on an outdoor big screen and the Florida sunshine. Above average pub fare with a couple of healthier options. Very dog friendly!!
