Mixed Feelings

Oliver Bentleys Historic Dog Walk Tour

After all 5-bone reviews I am hesitant to write this, but here goes anyway. First the positives: This tour was without a doubt extremely informative. We were given so much history and so many interesting and fun facts about Savannah's past--things we never would have learned on our own. There is no way we will remember it all! Our guide was very professional and knowledgeable; a very nice guy. Also, we were the only ones on the tour, so it turned into a private tour, but that's a split between positive and negative because we really would have enjoyed the dynamics of more people and pups, and might have rescheduled had we known. Now the not-so-positive (but not terrible points). As odd as it may seem, we didn't get the impression that our guide (not Lisa as many others have mentioned) was a real "dog person," and beyond allowing them to come along, the tour didn't really accommodate our dogs at all. Yes, they could pee along the way, but there was no point in the tour where there was a "anybody need to go potty break?" moment. Those moments were more an interruption to the tour than a planned part of the tour. Also, there was no consideration for a water break and again, we felt like it would be an interruption to stop long enough to give our pups water. It was a cool day, so we weren't worried, but by the end of the tour, they were definitely thirsty. This tour was like any other tour that allows dogs, and since we do only dog friendly activities when we travel, we have been on many of those, so we are used to that. The thing is, we were expecting this tour to be different, more inclusive of our dogs needs, so it was disappointing. The tour was 2 hours (30 minutes longer than expected). To be fair, we were held up twice--once for some dog lovers that couldn't resist meeting the pups and once because we very surprisingly crossed paths with a former colleague from home! So that explains a bit of the overtime. As much as we appreciated all we learned and saw, for us, less would have been better. We would have preferred the expected 90-minute tour that allowed time for potty breaks, water breaks, photo opportunities (which also felt like an interruption), and minor unexpected pauses in the walk. If this tour wasn't advertised as being geared towards dogs, I would not have taken two bones off, but it was, and there-in lies the disappointment.

Perfect for pets and their peoples

Kickback Neighborhood Tavern

Great menu; great food; great waitstaff; great outdoor space! Our two large dogs were welcomed and quickly served a large stainless steel bowl of cold water. The outdoor patio area is roomy and covered and there are fans and also speakers for background music (live music later in the evening!) Plenty of room for the pups to stretch out and nap while we enjoyed our meal. Will definitely return!!
