The town of Cerveteri
Cerveteri was part of the ancient Caere, one of the largest Etruscan cities for extension and power. The name derives from Caere Vetus to distinguish itself from Caere Novum, now Ceri, a nearby medieval village, climbed on a tufaceous cliff, offering a boundless view of the countryside.
In the historic center of Cerveteri, between narrow lanes and imposing walls, opens the square S. Mary with church S. Maria Maggiore, Ruspoli Castle and the Etruscan Museum. Here, in the summer, the Etruria Eco Festival takes place, in the framework of a show of concerts and shows.
To visit the surroundings of Cerveteri is the embarrassment of choice, between places of historical, archaeological, architectural, natural and enogastronomic places.
The Etruscan Necropolis
A few kilometers from the house lies the Etruscan Necropolis of the Banditaccia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which includes tombs of various eras and architectures, from the first cinerary urns to monumental tombs.
The area, ranging between rugged and lush vegetation areas, is beautiful for walking, walking, cycling or horseback riding (on the Via della Necropoli there is a riding school).
The nearby Necropolis of Sorbo, accessible only on request, includes wells and pit tombs and the famous Regolini Galassi mound; Next to the Tomb Calabresi, discovered on the grounds of the family, then destroyed, but the precious objects found are kept at the Gregorian Etruscan Museum at the Vatican and at the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia in Rome.
