This photo was taken at Black Beach Park in Silver Bay, MN. This is an interesting and beautiful beach. I believe it is one of only two black beaches in the world that don't originate from volcanoes. This beach was formed from the fine black sand that resulted from taconite tailings discarded in the lake decades ago. They stopped dumping in the early 80s and the beach, that they say has renewed itself from years of Lake Superior doing her thing, is now a state owned park.
