Roach Motel

Topaz Motel

Yes, there were roaches crawling everywhere as soon as the lights went out. So we left lights on during the night. We had a king bed as requested that was way too hard. Linens were white and appeared clean. Bathroom had unrepaired holes in wall from what appeared to have been a missing towel rack.
We were on first floor nearest ocean. A great location and traffic on A1A was not an issue, as I had feared when we were first assigned that room. There was a picture window facing the ocean which would have been a wonderful addition, however, the window tint was either VERY old or applied incorrectly (or both) as it was difficult to really see the beautiful scenery outside of window or sliding glass doors.

The kitchen consisted of very old appliances, including a fridge, full sized stove. The microwave sat atop the refrigerator. It took a long time to make water hot enough for a cup of hot tea. There were wooden chairs on front porch that were comfortable enough, and a bench out the entry door that was also comfy. Really no grass available for our dog, but that wasn't a problem. She did not seem to mind the room at all. We did not visit the pool area, but did walk by it on our way to the pier. It looked pleasing and there were people relaxing in it and on the deck.

We were charged a total of $142.84 for one night. Considering the condition of this motel, it should have been about half of that. We will not return.

Almost Pawfect!

Steinhatchee River Inn

We were absolutely satisfied with our King suite! It was attractive, roomy and comfortable for the most part, although the bed was a bit too hard for our comfort level. It was very quiet there. We did not hear other rooms adjacent or above us, nor did we hear vehicles arriving and departing. AC was cold. The grounds there are absolutely beautiful and well kept. We had occasion to use the swings, adding to our relaxation. We did not use the pool, but it appeared well kept and beautiful. The ice machine was located near our room on the 1st floor, and that was another added bonus. Most importantly, the staff were friendly, accommodating and extremely helpful! (Especially in helping to help us find relief from NoseeUms that are especially bothersome at dawn & dusk.)

Like Family!

Best Western Plus First Coast Inn & Suites

It was a very pleasant 2 night stay while we looked at local properties. We arrived a bit early, but were allowed to check in anyway. It was a bit disappointing to be on the 2nd floor, but the elevator was nearby. Also disappointed that there was no real breakfast due to covid, even though the coffee was good. We were provided with a brown bag of Various breakfast bars and an apple apiece. The desk clerk was just as friendly, knowledgeable as she could be, and made us feel like family. In fact, all staff were helpful and friendly. We definitely recommend Best Western at Yulee and will probably stay there again.

One night only, never again

Baymont by Wyndham Daytona Beach/Intl Speedway

We specifically chose La Quinta at this location because of the great rating with BringFido.

The Pros: No issues with having a dog and that there was no fee for her. Also, the linens on the bed were very clean and the bed comfortable. The room seemed fairly clean overall.

The Cons: The card key set did not work to start with. Once those were replaced and we entered our room, it reeked of cigarette smoke. We were given a new room, and upon entry, I immediately noticed the carpet stains. Also, the sliding glass doors open to patio were sealed closed. (The sliding glass doors in the first room were also sealed.) There was no hand soap provided. Throughout the night, there was lots of patron vehicle noise coming and going. Unexpected airport noise was unexpected. We had no idea we were that close to the airport, so it was quite unnerving as it was very loud. It did not go on all night-maybe 30 minutes. But started again in the early morning for about 20 minutes. And the "free breakfast" consisted of some bagels and a selection of apples, bananas....from what I observed.

As stated above, our safety was the biggest concern: Sliding glass doors sealed shut. (Best Western across the street wasn't that way, but not sure they allowed dogs) Also, the airport noise AND the patron (??) vehicular noise coming and going late into the evening was cause for our own vehicle's safety.

Super Lunch w/ pet

Applebees

Great location, shady patio, choice of high-top or regular table seating.
We were the only customers on the patio. Chloe, our 13 year old rat terrier, enjoyed lunch with her humans in a chair of her own.
Shawna, our waitress, was so thoughtful and sweet meeting not only our lunch desires, but provided a cool drink of water fir our Chloe.
