    We had a blast!

We had a great time bringing Sunny to this State Park. The beach is dog-friendly, so we were able to let her play in the sand and waves. Sunny enjoyed digging a huge hole on the beach and also enjoyed the seagulls. The path we were planning on hiking had been destroyed by a recent storm, so we did not explore any of the paths. We had a blast during our time there though.

Fun park but ticks on trails

Outside the ticks we got walking a short trail from campgrounds to visitor center and marsh boardwalk(8 total), its a great park. Dogs can't go in the fenced in area around the lighthouse and other buildings but welcome most everywhere outside and on the beach as long as they are leashed (which almost all we met were). Beach still has the trees south of south beach but you'll want to go at low tide unless you like a challenge. Our dog loved all the people and dogs around.

    Amazing trip

We went on the Sunday afternoon of Labor Day weekend, 2012, and it wasn't crowded at all. There were quite a few people at the campground, but if you drive further down to the park office you can park and find the trailheads from there. We took the rattlesnake trail down to the southern end of the park and didn't see one person along the trail. As we got to the nature center, there were a number of people out fishing on the pier, but you can catch another short trail out to the beach and we had over a mile of sandy beach to ourselves. There are large pieces of driftwood (whole trees) scattered along the beach which gives it a unique feel. We walked down the beach, taking stops along the way to go play in the waves, all the way back to the park office where we parked. There are quite a few mosquitoes and ticks in the forest, but that is to be expected.
