    CHRISTMAS EVE DAYTIME VISIT

One doesn't think of December as being a warm time of year to walk around a mountain. But it most certainly was for our trip. It was a fascinating walk through rocks and boulder formations, through winding trails and tunnels. And my dog loved it!! Although it was a pretty long walk, there were many places to sit comfortably and rest if needed. And I never felt unsafe from the heights for me or my dog, as there was safety measures everywhere needed. I recommend this highly. At Christmas, they also have an evening walk through lights that we did not go.

    Favorite place

This is my favorite place to go the views are beautiful and it’s not strenuous to hike up to. Dogs are allowed in the patio to the restaurant, in the gift shops at the top and through the whole trail to make it to the top.

    Best dog friendly attraction

I think this is my favorite dog friendly attraction anywhere. The grounds are so pretty and peaceful. It’s a great walk for a nice day and so many spectacular views. You get to see seven states from the top. My dog also enjoyed the walk and we were all thoroughly impressed and just the right amount of tired when we left. Definitely add this to your Chattanooga list!

    Absolutely Worth It

Went with the family which includes our Rottweiler Nova. Such a beautiful place. There is an ADA trail for those with limited mobility. We took the traditional trail first. There is a lot of steps and uneven walking paths, and an area called “Fat Man’s Squeeze” and yea it was a little squeeze as we are on the larger side. But it looks a bit smaller than what it actually is. The fairyland caverns are worth it, but again it is very dark, wet, with uneven terrain and steps. We went a little slower and used our flashlights on our phone when needed to help see. This landed us back at the beginning of the trail and then used the ADA trail to make it to the top. The view from the top makes the price of the ticket 100% worth it. However, right after I took the picture of the “Seven States” Nova decided she needed to jump up in the sign and have a near death experience. Scared me to death. So after some tears, cocktails and snacks on the wooden rocking chairs looking at the beautiful view, we made our way back to the entrance. I would definitely go again, and this time make sure Nova can’t get to close to the edge!

    It was great

Love that we could take Vada with us. Only complaint, they need to mark designated potty areas.

    Doggy Fairyland

Our two dogs were treated like rock stars by both the staff and guests as we walked the awesome trails at Rock City. The shaded "cave" areas brought a lot of cool air for our doggos & they loved being with Mom & Dad on this adventure....highly recommended dog family must see attraction!

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND

So glad we came. Guinness is 13 and 75 lbs. and he did great Al the way. December was cold up too so dress warmly but there’s a great dog friendly cafe at the top and fire pits to warm you. totally worth the 1.5 hour drive for this day trip. LOVED IT !!

    All around perfect (go early)!

It’s a little pricey, but worth it to be able to socialize my dog to new people/ experiences. She was afraid of the rope bridge and the ledge by the (loudish) waterfall, so I held her through those (but you can skip then both if you prefer). The restaurant apparently even has a dog menu, but they were closed. I saw a couple stations with dog bags. It is cold during winters and hot during summers. I highly recommend getting tickets and being there the minute they open; Rock City gets crowded with tourists fast. A crowd + dog would have been miserable for me, but at 830am on a Saturday, we had the perfect mix of solitude and the occasional stranger. I plan to return many times.

    Great views and experience

Rick City, Lookout Mountain, is very dog friendly. I saw several other dogs and their owners. I have small little 6 pound pup who had no problem getting around, even up and down the stairs. I did pick her up when we went through the tight corridors, as she was not a fan of that area. I loved the entire experience and so grateful I got to take our dog.

    Great dog friendly activity

All of the trails are extremely pet friendly (just be aware that you cannot bring a dog stroller on the more extreme trails but my little dogs handled the steps fine). There were multiple dogs when we brought our two small tzus, and everyone got along great. Every employee we passed loved petting our pups. They even got their pictures taken for the company instagram! Cafe 7 has a dedicated pet area with a gorgeous view. Definitely recommend!

    Something Different!

We went to rock city on a Wednesday and was quit crowded. A little difficult to navigate with a dog and not a lot of room the roam around. We like more traditional hikes better but it was a fun experience.

So Cool You Can Bring Your Dog!

It was nice that one of the big tourist attractions allows dogs. They are limiting the number of people, so it wasn’t over crowded, but I can see where if it was more crowded some dogs may be overwhelmed. The employees were all super friendly to our pup. One of us was waiting outside a gift shop and the lady said to bring him on in. She said they used to get so many dogs but now they don’t for some reason.

    Good In Theory...

We visited on a rainy Saturday, which was the best place because it’s the only paved trail in the area (no mud). However, there were SO many people. With the amount of people and how skinny the walkways are, our dog got very overwhelmed and scared very quickly. Not the most accommodating for dogs. Also not many places for our dog to do his business.

    King of the mountain!

Super pet friendly! The staff all were friendly and offered water for my dog! He enjoyed the views and navigating through the narrow passages. The swinging bridge was fun too!

Fun experience for us and our dog

Our dog really seemed yo enjoy the cool, shady environment, gardens and moist pathways. It was not very crowded today and she is a medium sized dog, so we did not feel awkward in some of the narrow passages. She was frightened on the swinging bridge, but quickly adapted and dealt with it. It was so cute when she stood up to see what was over a wall or to look at a display!

Not as good as I had hoped

So perhaps our disappointment was due to the fact that it was one of the first warm days of the year, or perhaps it's not as dog friendly as promised. We have a 70 lb. lab-mix, and she was not having any of the narrow walkways leading up to the overlook. The walkways were incredibly crowded, which made walking with a larger dog near impossible. We took the trek down to Rock City thinking it was going to be more of a Clingmans Dome-esque experience, but it was much more tourist-oriented. Our dog is used to challenging, rocky hikes, so if your goal is to go for a scenic hike, perhaps this is not the best place-- at least not on the busy days!

Good for Small or Medium Dogs

I have a 55 lb lab mix. She was welcomed into Rock City and everyone loved on her. My only word of caution is that there are some narrow walkways and paths you walk and so bigger dogs might have more trouble. Also, there's not a lot of areas for dogs to potty, so make sure they go before entering the park. It stays pretty shaded so overheating wasn't an issue.

Ashen and Neena's visit from Florida

Excellent location. Everyone was wonderful to my babies. Neena even go got a kiss from a cute little boy. Some passages are a little challenging and you might need to carry your pet. I also recommend that you pick up your pet when you're at he observation decks... very hot rocks.

    Worth the trip

During the road trip, drove up the winding roads to Rock City. Hesitated (because of the entrance fee), but checked it out... Pros: Fantastic view! Dog friendly (except a few of the indoor spots)... Cons: Some spots with steep stairs. (I carried my 14-yr old dog down a few).. All in all, definitely worth the visit.. A wonderful place to spend a couple of hours... PS: concessions were minimal, so we waited.... Then, my dog and I had a pleasant outdoor lunch at a place called Purple Daisy (at the bottom of the road)

    Fun in the fall

    Very dog friendly.
They have all sorts of fun activities in the fall - around Halloween season. I took my dog with me to explore the Corn Maze. They also have a "dog maze" a mini maze for dogs. Lots of fun.
