Hamburg mountain is used by many hunters durning most of the year. There is a tremendous bear population and as posted above there are many tocks. I recommend blaze Orange and a leash. In my opinion Harriman state park if far superior. Don't waist your time.

This trail may have been dog friendly at one point but is not now if you ask me. The hike itself is very mellow with gentile inclines and very flat. About a mile in from the Ogden way entrance there is a huge land slide, you can walk around it. During our hike we saw some deer, a bobcat and a small snake so if your dog is curious be careful. Apparently seeing a bobcat on this trail is not uncommon. Make sure your dog is armed with heavy tick repellant as my wife and I found about 30 ticks on each dog by the end of our hike. We are still picking them off. It is not groomed and very rocky as well so bring some good hiking boots, sneakers will not cut it. Overall the scenery was nice though so it was not terrible for a moderate hike. I gave it a 1 bone rating based on how dog friendly the trail is. As a regular hike rating I would give it a 2.5 star. If you plan to hike with a dog hit up to nearby Appalachian trail off of Route 515 or 517.
