Dog-Friendly Activities in Deep Creek, FL

Dogs are welcome to enjoy some of the trails at Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. Unfortunately, they are not allowed to enter any of the buildings that commemorate the American composer, Stephen Foster, who wrote the song that made the Suwannee River famous, Old Folks at Home. Even though you can't check out the museum, you can still have a great day on the hiking trails that take in high river bluffs and limestone outcroppings, swamp forest, hammocks, and piney flatwoods alongside the Suwannee River. You might even spot wildlife along the trails, including gopher tortoise, box turtles, alligators, white-tailed deer, wood ducks, and a number of different types of bird.

Dogs are welcome at Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park, a pet-friendly park in Olustee, FL, that commemorates the site of Florida's largest Civil War battle. Way back in 1864, there were 10,000 soldiers battling it out among the pine trees in this forest. The park became the state's first historic site in 1912 when soldiers who fought the battle were still alive to meet there for reunions. Pets are welcome on the one mile trail that follows the battle lines, but are not permitted inside the building or at the battle reenactment.

Big Shoals State Park in White Springs, FL, is home to the largest whitewater rapids in Florida. Fido can glide along the Class III whitewater rapids if they're brave enough. Alternatively, you can enjoy the 28 miles of pet-friendly trails alongside the river. One of the most popular trails is the Woodpecker Trail, a 3.4-mile long multipurpose paved trail. For something a little more rustic, you can check out the Big Shoals Trail that weaves through the woodland.

Conveniently located off of I-75 in White Springs, FL, this Sun Stop Paw Park is next to the Shell gas station and Sun Stop travel store. This pet-friendly fenced space allows Fido to stretch his legs after a journey in the car. Please remember to keep your pup on-leash outside the dog park and clean up any mess that they leave behind.
