Crabtree Falls Bring Fido to the pet-friendly and majestic Crabtree Falls, which is the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, and is located in Montebello, VA. This waterfall features a series of five major cascades and a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 feet. The first overlook is just a few hundred feet from the upper parking lot along a gentle, paved trail, making it an excellent stopover for travelers of all ages and abilities. The more adventuresome hiker may continue along the 2.5-mile Crabtree Falls Trail to four other overlooks offering spectacular views of the falls and the Tye River Valley. Leashed dogs are welcome. Augusta Springs Wet Lands This dog-friendly trail meanders through wetland habitats surrounded by hardwood forest interspersed with pines. Two large ponds are home to nesting wood duck and are patrolled by resident green and great blue herons. Nesting species include common yellowthroat, red-winged blackbird, blue-gray gnatcatcher, cedar waxwing, American goldfinch, and occasionally, blue-winged warbler.
