The Silver Comet Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Leashed dogs are welcome at Big Trees Forest Preserve, a pet-friendly old-growth forest in Sandy Springs, GA. You and Fido can explore the network of trails, babbling brooks and the native trees and flowers that are protected in this preserve. Waste bags and receptacles are found throughout the preserve, making it easy to clean up after your pup. Please do not let Fido dig holes anywhere on the preserve, and remember to stay on the trails.

Unfortunately, dogs are not permitted in the pioneer cabins or any of the other buildings in the park, but leashed pets are permitted in the visitor center to gain access to the trails.

Previously the home to several thousand Native Americans, this park's purpose is to protect the 54-acres that includes six earthen mounds, a plaza, village site, borrow pits, and a defensive ditch. The earthen mounds were constructed by Native American tribes for numerous reasons, including for burial and ritual purposes. Please note that dogs aren't permitted inside buildings at the park.
