Cranberry Bog Nature Preserve is a 165-acre site set in the wetlands of Riverhead. The park is what remains of an abandoned cranberry-growing operation. Leashed dogs are welcome on the hiking trails where you will experience sights of the Little Peconic River, various plant life, birds species, reptiles and other local wildlife in all seasons. About 3/4 of the way around the trail, you'll come across what's left of an old pump house from when the Woodhull family farmed cranberries at the bog. The focal point of the 1.1 mile loop is the wooden bridge over the bog. Look for a sign that marks the entrance to the preserve. There's a small off-road parking area.

Nestled within the Long Island Pine Barrens, Sears Bellows offers a broad range of recreational opportunities to Suffolk County residents and tourists. Sears Bellows' extensive trail system attracts hikers and their dogs along Bellows Pond. This park is closed to certain activities during waterfowl hunting season.

Dogs are welcome on the 3.8-mile loop trail at Red Creek Park. You may see blue heron, deer, red tailed hawks, or kettle holes along the way.

Situated conveniently near several access points to hiking trails in the Pine Barrens, this facility was established to provide the public with environmental interpretation of the Pine Barrens.
