Description
Since 1995, Assistance Dogs of the West has been teaching kids to train assistance dogs for people with disabilities. With guidance from professional assistance dog trainers, students learn how to teach assistance dogs in-training obedience basics and specialized service dog tasks.
Here is a short list of what students can expect to get from this course:
Dog/human relationships-leadership, consistency, and trust
Basic obedience training-use positive rewards
Dog behavior in public-dog socialization
Basic commands for assistance dogs
Differing ability awareness training-learn about Assistance Dogs of the West clients
Building loving relationships and letting go-emotional growth
Community service-how we help others
Classes are open to ages 8-18. The Winter/Spring session begins Tuesday, January 13th, from 4-5:30 p.m. and recurs weekly until the end of April.
