Our family of four, my husband, 20 yr. old son, 19 year old daughter, me, and our German Shepherd, Bruce, stayed at Rio Casita for a week in July. We specifically looked for a dog-friendly, river front home so Bruce could enjoy the water - and he did! The home is beautiful with a modern, yet rustic touch. It was completely renovated after the devastating flood of May 2015. It had everything we needed for a wonderful stay - fully stocked kitchen, great bath towels and bedding, comfortable furniture, a huge back porch, charcoal grill, and a fenced yard for our dog. The best part, it is right on the Blanco River, which is shallow, warm, and clear.
The rotten egg smell the other review talked about is a common occurrence when there is well water. It is not dangerous! The owners have put in a filtration system to help with the odor. There was a slight smell when we first turned on the water, but it was not horrible and did not linger. I was able to fully enjoy the claw foot tub in the master bath with no sulfur smell at all.
The property is a perfect combination of being remote, yet close to so much. It three miles out of Wimberley, but an easy drive to many area attractions. We visited local wineries, spent a day in Austin, went to the outlets, and walked around Wimberley.
Connie, the owner, was very nice and not difficult at all. This is her rental home business and obviously does a great job because Rio Casita is usually fully booked. I had to book eight months in advance.
We will go back as soon as we can!
