This is an older establishment and wouldn’t get a lot of stars based on its modern amenities. But it was clean and cozy and very dog friendly. There was a large, maintained grassy field with picnic tables. The room was big enough and the mattress was firm. Once we covered it with our sheet, the dogs found it very comfortable. When a dryer in the laundry room billowed black smoke and the place was swarming with police and firefighters, they knocked on our door and told us to go to the lobby in another building. When we said we had the dogs, the response was “they’re family too” and allowed them in the lobby where breakfast was being served. Even with the power turned off for safety, the food was still warm and very tasty. There were many homestyle dishes that you wouldn’t find in a chain. (The fire was quickly extinguished and we got back into the room).

We are traveling with our 12 yr old Australian Shepherd and The Lodge was a great choice to stay. Very welcoming, nice room, fantastic hot, homemade breakfast. The interior design provides a warm and homey atmosphere. Room rate is low and the pet fee was low as well. We will make this our regular stop for the annual family visit in IA. Definitely recommend - with or without pets. (The Kansas Country Inn in Oakley KS is owned by the same group and every bit as nice!)

I loved this quaint lodge. The staff was very friendly and the amenities were great. Breakfast was amazing!

We pass through Kansas several times a year, in both directions, and since we’ve discovered The Lodge, we no longer worry about the kind of room we may be getting. The staff is nice, we enjoy the fun decor of the rooms, and as a bonus they have a great breakfast buffet! I would not hesitate to recommend this as a stop.

Traveling with two dogs, our stop at The Lodge in Russell was a nice break, friendly staff and nice room with lots of great, nearby places to walk our pets. I would book another stay when traveling through Kansas.
