    Wonderful experience

We’ve been stopping in Albuquerque as we drive across the country for years. This is the best we’ve found. What a wonderful dog walk area!! Rooms comfy. Great food nearby.

    4 paw review

Very clean, friendly place! Best of all, you’ll feel secure with a night security guard and one way in/out. He was so nice and showed me a dog run area for my pup to be free off the leash. The room had a water, food bowl and cot for my fur baby. I typically use my own products. But I loved the smell of the shampoo, conditioner, lotion etc. Such a gem for us both to enjoy!

Very welcoming to our dog and ourselves. Helpful information and cool southwest decor.

    Okay for one night

The staff gave my pup treats upon arrival. The room has a raised cot and small food and water dishes just for the fur baby. However, the property doesn’t have an adequate space for taking care of business. My girl refuses to use paved or gravel surfaces and prefers grass (it doesn’t have to be fancy). We found a small spot across the street, next to Starbucks/Burger King and another suitable patch a block further down the road.

Loud air conditioning unit that could not be adjusted for noise or temperature. Good shower and nice size room.

    Lovely breakfast

Two blocks from Old Town, where it’s very dog friendly. The hotel was nice and in a good location. The breakfast was great but we had to take shifts to eat. And the dog walking area is only ricks, which my dog isn’t really used to. Otherwise it was fine.

    Great Staff

Staff here is great. The hotel is in a sketchy area, but apparently there is a night security guard and there is only 1 way in or out. Left to take the dog out early this AM and saw roaches outside my door. I reported it to the front desk upon check out and was told they are spraying today. Their bath towels are super thin. Was disappointed in some of the other pet owners who did not clean up after their dogs inspite of the hotel providing bags in a couple of places.

    Great location

These people love dogs! Dog bed in room, treat at check-in. Hallway smoky, even in non smoking room area. No breakfast included and room adequate. Great restaurants nearby, and OldTown down the street. Tourist center had treats and attention for our pup, ABQ is very dog friendly. Though dog parks are very dirty and no grass.

    Way too noisy

We paid more for this hotel than any other on our road trip. It was so noisy we couldn't sleep. The room smelled bad and the space for the dogs to go outside has a homeless encampment right on the other side of the fence.

    Convenient and friendly

The staff was friendly and the room comfortable. It was convenient to the highway and old town. My only complaint is that there was not much of an area for my dog.

    Comfortable for pets

Right off the highway and with pet friendly room (with a pet bed) very close to parking on the first floor so easy in and out for carrying luggage and dog walks. Two pet walk locations including one small fenced in area (but seriously pet parents - do better picking up). Staff VERY friendly and provided treats for the pups. There’s a restaurant on site.

There was a small fenced off lead area that my dog liked. He hates doing his business on lead so it was great.

    Easy Stay, Great Location

The Best Western is a fine motel. They are very dog friendly, charging $30 for a big dog. The location is about a .60 mile walk to a very nice park for walking the dog. It is also .50 miles from old town. No worries with this place.

    Great stay with the pups

This hotel was very dog friendly. Perfectly located to walk downtown. Very clean and comfortable. We recommend as a good stop while traveling with the pooches. Great music on Thursday nights too. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

    Not a fan

The staff was friendly to our dog and gave him a goody bag of treats. But the property was noisy and the 2 pet areas were unimpressive. One was gravel and one was a small turf area.

Nice for our pup, but area is questionable

Had a dog bed and treats for our dog. Older hotel that looked the part. Near the dog run area in the parking lot behind the hotel we found needles and a broken bong.

    Great welcome for furkids

The front desk was super kind and helpful with my room for my 2 furbabies (Australian Shepherds). They gave 2 welcome packets with 2 dog biscuits for each of my pups. They gave me a corner room on the 4th floor. The room was all wood flooring, which was wonderful in case there was an accident (fortunately there wasn't). They had 2 doggie areas, one which was fenced (unfortunately other pet parents didn't pick up after their dogs) and a non-fenced area which was clean. Waiting for the elevator was the only downside. If I am in this area again, I would stay here.

    Good choice

Good location and friendly. No grass on site but nice gravel/astroturf pet area with picnic tables and shade. And fortunately our girl will go on gravel if enough other dogs have! And we really liked the restaurant at the hotel! Wild Avocado - good breakfast and very good New Mexican food!!

    Great experience

Stayed one night on a cross-country trip. Easily the best pet friendly hotel we stayed at over the 4 day trip. Helpful and responsive staff. Spacious, clean, modern room. Easy and ample parking. Complimentary dog cot in room and treats at check-in were a nice touch. Traffic noise from adjacent highway was noticeable but not disruptive, grassy areas on property are small but adequate. Neighborhood right next to hotel was good for longer walks.

    It’s okay

We stayed here one night. It’s right off the freeway so it’s very easy to find. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean, but nothing special - pretty standard for a hotel room. The hotel has a small faux grass area next to the parking lot for urinating but our dog wasn’t interested in that. The hotel also has a larger fenced “run” area also just off the parking lot with pea gravel. It’s nice to have a hotel that allows pets as a lot of hotels don’t, but our dog didn’t use what was there.

Journey enjoyed her stay at Rio Grande Inn!

My dog & I were quite comfortable at the Rio Grande Inn in Albuquerque; the hotel is clean and safe with friendly staff. A raised dog bed is provided for pup's comfort. There is one problem, but I believe that it cannot be remedied because the inn is located in the New Mexico desert with limited water resources. The very nicely situated and designed dog relief area contains artificial grass inside a desert landscape area. My dog refuses to "potty" on rocks or artificial grass, even after being cooped up in the car for hours and walking around the parking lot. A hose is provided to wash off the artificial turf, but even that did not entice my Golden Doodle; she refused to even step on it. I solved the problem by taking her outside of the gated parking lot (yes, it is gated for security which I like). Once she found a patch of grass, she did her business. (Of course, I cleaned it up.)

I recommend the Rio Grande Inn. Just be aware that you might need to take your pup for a bit of a longer walk (which is needed after a long car ride anyway) off the property grounds if yours is picky like mine is.

    No Grass For Dogs

4.5 bones is a joke. Had to cross a street to find real grass. They have a 4 by 8 piece to fake turf and a gravel dog area. Anything else would be better.

    Enclosed Dog Run

Make sure to request a first floor room if that’s what you want. They put us on tbe 2nd floor & stairs were not handy.
Huge bonus: Enclosed dog run 6’ privacy fence, probably 10’ x 15’ covered with pea gravel corner of parking lot

    Nice dog amenities

At check-in we received a "doggie bag" with Milk Bones for Bonnie. She was thrilled to find an elevated dog bed in the room. She does not have one at home, but took to it immediately and spent most of the night on it. There were designated potty areas and poo bags outside near our entrance. The desk clerk pointed out a fenced "dog run" area, but we found it was just a long narrow run with a layer of pebbles; and it was padlocked so was inaccessible any way. The room was fine. Dinner at the on-site restaurant took a long time due to short staffing and wasn't as good as we expected. We didn't try them for breakfast because we were in a hurry to get on the road. They have a large parking area but the two gates on the side of the property were locked. This made it difficult for us to figure out how to get our RV in and out of the property. The hotel is right next to I-40, but access took a bit of planning. Still, if you aren't traveling with an RV and are flexible about meals, this is a nice place to stay and we'd recommend it.

    Close to five bones

Nice, classic BW! Room very dog friendly (hard floors) and clean. Urban hotel with good security. Urban style dog walking, which can be good. Walk to Old Town and the trails by the Rio Grande. Hotel ingress and egress a little tight with big dogs.

Back to being a decent place, Maybe not

I had to drop a bone for our third revisit. Urine odor and sink faucet would not work on the hot water side. Didn’t report either as they were nice enough to bring a microwave to our room when I’d realized there wasn’t one There already. Ironically, we had the same room as our original bad experience. Don’t accept room 120! And next time I’ll remember to ask to see the room first.

We’ve revisited this place twice now after avoiding it due a bad experience (room with an overwhelming, make your eyes water, dog smell) a couple of years ago. i’m happy to report no more issues. Rooms were clean and comfortable both times. (I did ask to inspect the rooms before committing.)

No real amenities for the dog, just asphalt and rock, but we like its location with a close drive to Old Town where we can walk the dog and enjoy human amenities as well. There’s also an option to walk to a good, perhaps pricey, wine bar/restaurant.

This time, due to covid, we ordered dinner from the on-site restaurant and we were blown away. Great food!

So this place is solidly back on out list as a travel stop.

The room was fine. Hard floors throughout. The pet relief area is gravel not grass, in case your dog is finicky. Practically next door, the Two Cranes restaurant has a dog-friendly patio and good food.
