Reviews
Travelers find the accommodations at La Quinta by Wyndham Albuquerque West to be mixed, with some positive and some negative experiences. Many guests praise the hotel's pet-friendly policies and amenities, though others note issues like dirty rooms, poor maintenance, and a questionable surrounding area. The staff is described as friendly, but the hotel itself seems to need significant improvements.

- TinaAug 3, 2024My second stay
Only concern here was that the room was on the third floor, despite requesting 1st floor or lowest possible because my dog won't do elevators. Had to haul everything up and down the stairs. Other than that this hotel is great. Room is large and comfortable, and good breakfast. There is a large homeless population in the area but none of the homeless bothered me (an older female) as I walked the dog around the block in the morning. I'd stay here again.
- MarcellaJul 27, 2024Dirty room
The room was dirty and had a very strong smell of dog urine. Limited grass area for pets. A lot of homeless people around. I didn't feel safe.
- DanineJul 6, 2024It’s kinda gross
We only booked here because Sonesta was out of rooms and the room we got was gross. Checked in and everything is breaking. Front desk was trying to get AC and key cards and doors working for other guests. I should’ve turned around and found something else at that point. The hallways are disgusting. I don’t know if it’s from dogs or people, but it’s nasty and smelly. Stains all over the floors everywhere in the hotel. I didn’t want to walk barefoot in the room. Stay somewhere else, don’t even get a hotel on this road. The only good thing I can say is the girls at the front desk were incredibly nice and helpful, as was housekeeping and maintenance. The bed was uncomfortable, TV was tiny, and rooms don’t block out much noise.
- MelindaMay 27, 2024Sketchy
Do NOT stay here. Tons of homeless outside hotel and was worried the entire night that our car was going to get broken into. Dirty room, hotel room door handle broken and door dented. Looked like it had been kicked in. Shower was gross. Only plus was they allow dogs. However, us and our dogs just wanted to get out ASAP. Would not stay here again.
- JanetApr 7, 2024Nice facility
Plenty of space for the dogs to do their business, the room is a bit dated but kept up, staff was very nice and didn't have a problem with us bringing the dogs to the breakfast area in the morning. And even though it was right next to a busy freeway, our room was very quiet. The only criticism is that the surrounding area is commercial and not very attractive, and the property is surrounded by a tall wrought iron fence, I assume for protection. And there is a security guard on the premises. I guess that should make me feel safer, but also made me feel like we were not in a good area of town. Needless to say we did not take the dogs for any walks outside the fence.
- ChrisFeb 2, 2024Just OK
Staff was extremely cordial, accommodating, and as helpful as could be, but the property seemed understaffed. The building is very tired and needs some capital improvements. I can see why some of the other reviewers felt the way they did, but I'd say because of the price it is a decent value. It wouldn't be an enthusiastic "stay there again," but I wouldn't be afraid to for a night traveling through Albuquerque to my next destination.
- JulieJan 7, 2024Great location
Convenient to I-40. Reasonable price for accommodation.
- DanDec 5, 2023Not good
Room dirty, heater very noisy, and breakfast was terrible.
- MelindaOct 19, 2023Stay away
This is by far the dirtiest hotel we have stayed at on our cross country road trip. Allowing dogs doesn’t make up for how unclean this place is! We have had nothing but great experiences (especially with La Quinta hotels) but this makes me question! The carpets throughout the hotel look and feel gross. I’m pretty tolerant but gotta say this hotel is not worth the money. Keep looking for somewhere else!
- SteveOct 15, 2023Loud air conditioner
The staff was very accommodating when we needed them to hold our bags due to an early arrival. The bed was very good but when we turned on the heater it triggered the smoke alarm. At least we know it works.
- LarryAug 25, 2023Just okay
Since this location offers pet-friendly rooms, the rooms should have hard surface flooring instead of carpet.
- DianaAug 23, 2023Central to everything
The staff were kind, the room was clean and they even had ice cream in the lounge! The pups had a couple large places to potty and sniff around. I would stay here again.
- MarkAug 2, 2023Good service
Check-in was quick and easy.
- GlennisJul 7, 2023Just fine
After staying at a horrible La Quinta in Lubbock, I feared the worst. But it was ok. Not great but ok.
- Barbara MMar 2, 2023NOPE!
I would not recommend this place. Check-in was a nightmare. The lobby was filled with people and dogs and only 1 desk person who was working as fast as he could and was very nice. The elevators were dirty. Only 2 at opposite ends of the hotel for 5 floors. Our room seemed like the carpet had been cleaned recently, but no microwave or refrigerator as advertised. Our dog was attacked by a cocker spaniel as we attempted to get off the elevator and they were waiting to get on. Not the hotel's fault, but cramped facility. We wouldn't stay here again.
- LindsayFeb 20, 2023Do not stay here
This hotel is in a dangerous area. Our Uhaul was broken into and thousands of dollars of personal property stolen. DO NOT STAY HERE!
- IreneJan 9, 2023A poor La Quinta property
The surrounding area was just plain dirty and there was no good dog walking area that was clean. Previous pet parents did not pick up and neither did staff (which they should not have to). This was a popular location with many guests with pets. The location is close to the highway and very noisy. The blankets on the bed were thin and we were cold. We usually love La Quinta but this property disappointed.
- KellieJan 5, 2023Ugh
We were not pleased at all with our stay. Our room on the 3rd floor smelled like cigarette smoke and urine. If you turned the lights on the tv turned off. If the tv was on and your turned the lights off the tv turned off the microwave was stacked on top of the fridge and neither worked. The card readers outside didn't work so the doors were left unlocked so anyone could get into the hotel. We did not feel very safe especially walking the dogs at night and before sunrise as the parking lot was dark and not well lit. I gave it one bone because the poop bags were well stocked but I think it is because no one used them there was dog poop everywhere. We always clean up after our dogs and I do not understand why people don't. I'm sure it is hard to enforce but it was very tough to walk the dogs in the dark without worrying about stepping in poop. I would not stay here again and I would not recommend to anyone else. Thanks at least for trying to stock dog waste bags.
- CheriDec 16, 2022Nice stay
Room was comfortable.
- BruceOct 30, 2022Nice place
The staff was friendly. Room was nice and clean.
- RonaldSep 26, 2022Price is Right, But Somewhat Shabby
This hotel has a lot of maintenance issues. Staff told me that it's getting a new owner, deal closing in January, and they are just waiting to see what will be fixed and what won't. Our room itself was fine, although the hair dryer didn't work and we had to fiddle with the door to get it open. And our key stopped working on the second day. This hotel could be cleaner. Our beds were fine, which is the most important thing, but they're definitely not fanatics about cleanliness in the common areas like elevator and hallways. I ate breakfast outside since all the inside tables were taken, and nobody had bothered to clean the tables and chairs -- so they were quite dirty, as it's a dry, dusty and windy area. We did appreciate the reasonable room cost and lack of a pet fee.
- PattiSep 1, 2022Needs improvement
On the plus side, room was spacious and had plenty of convenient outlets. Requested ground floor room but got 3rd floor. Check-in person not very helpful. Long waits at front desk (more staff needed). No microwave or mini fridge in room. Very dim light in bathroom and no fan. Tub drain clogged, very slow to drain. Ripped curtains on window. No adjustment option on ac. Could be cleaner.
- JacquelineSep 1, 2022Do not stay here!
Room REEKED of urine; there is no way they are shampooing these carpets if pets have accidents in them. Dog areas outside were tiny and covered in dog poop as were all the other non-designated dog areas. Power went out twice in one day and key cards were not working for a while. We threw the bolt on our room door and it was a good thing because someone tired to get in and only that bolt stopped them. Staff said they would "walk the hotel" to look around. How does that help if the key cards aren't keeping people out? The area itself was pretty iffy and everywhere is covered in garbage. Hotel was pretty full and lots of dogs and people made for a ton of noise so we were up late. Breakfast was such a short window of time and options quite limited but it didn't matter because we just wanted to get the heck out of there. The urine smell was making us ill.
- Benjamin and BrittanyAug 23, 2022I struggle to find something good
There was a (possible) blood stain or two on the floor when we got to our room, which made me worry for my cat and dog. There were two pet areas: one was small rocks and next to a smoking area, and the other had grass but was constantly wet from sprinklers. My corgi HATES wet grass and the rocks hurt her paws.
The shower didn't drain well, or at all, until we got out of the shower. It reeked of smoke. Also very thin walls, so if your dog reacts to barking, be prepared for no sleep. The check in and check out were fast though. - LynnAug 9, 2022Super Pet Friendly
Excellent.
- ToniJul 28, 2022Right off of the 40 in Albuquerque
The room was nice, clean, and comfortable.
- JamesJul 25, 2022Needs a remodel
Nice people, but the property desperately needs a renovation. The room furnishings, towels, pillows and bathroom are dated and tired. The hotel failed to provide a pet friendly room, in spite of a reservation made far in advance. Very disappointed!
- MelissaJul 14, 2022Filthy, poor customer service
No sheet on one bed. The tub was filthy and did not drain. We wore plastic bags to get in and then when dirty water started backing up into the tub got out and asked for help, which we didn’t receive. We left and went to the Albuquerque Sheraton which was great and took pets and cost less. The woman staffer was defensive, unapologetic, and had no customer service skills. This place should be REMOVED from your site.
- LindaJul 13, 2022Good location
Quiet hotel. Small dog relief area at front of hotel.
- DominiqueJul 12, 2022Great location
Clean, inviting room. As a woman traveling solo with my dog, I felt totally comfortable.
- BryanJul 9, 2022Worst hotel I have ever stayed at
Woke up at 5:30am to the sink and tub gurgling and dirty water backing up into them and a awful smell. It smelled like sewer water and chemicals. The hotel was dirty in the hallways.
- MarthaJul 7, 2022Clean enough, however
Room smelled like cigarette smoke. Was also a bit concerned to find soap left behind in shower from previous guests. Also, coffeemaker in room was missing a part, so it was nonfunctional. Otherwise it was ok.
- DeborahJul 1, 2022Decor Delight
We loved our room's decor and spacious bathroom. Also, very pet friendly.
- NicoleJun 26, 2022Not good
The hotel was conveniently located to the highway, but not a great area and not clean.
- JenniferJun 26, 2022Good Stay
What was good was also what was bad. Easy access to Interstate, but heard traffic all night long. A few dogs barking but not that bad. We stayed on the 3rd floor so letting the dog out to go to the bathroom was a bit of a hassle.
- EilidhJun 21, 2022Don’t. Stay. Here.
We were greeted by a friendly lady at the main desk. She was personable and welcomed my dog. The hotel is run down and dirty. The hallways needed vacuumed. The bathroom needed some bleach. The room smelled like cigarettes. The whole place needs a remodel or at the very least a good clean.
- James MichaelJun 20, 2022Great Property
This inn was wonderful, great big room decorated beautifully. Wonderful amenities and conveniently located to restaurants.
- KaraJun 17, 2022Smells
After a really long day of traveling with my dog the first room I walked into, the smell was so overpowering I almost vomited. I went down and the front desk guy said, “I was wondering if you were going come back down and ask to move rooms. I’ve had to move a lot of people from that area.” They moved me to another room and it was smelly but not as bad. Trash bags in the hallway and the floors. Just keep your shoes on.
- StephanieJun 10, 2022Convenient and helpful
Older facility that accommodates what seems like all the dogs! First place on our journey where dogs seemed as welcome as their humans. Nice room, laundry facilities, free wifi and free breakfast.
- JenniferJun 5, 2022Convenient spot that allows dogs
Good spot for stopping on road trip with our two pups. Lots of dogs at hotel. It was a bit noisy and my dogs were a bit restless but it was their first hotel experience. Room had carpet so it smelled a bit like urine from previous tenants.
- DEBBIEMay 31, 2022Great place
We will definitely go back again. Room was great. Employees were fantastic! Love this place hotel!
- EdwinMay 30, 2022Excellent experience
Everything went smoothly. Convenient location for food and gas and dog walking. Beds comfortable.
- ThomasMay 29, 2022Cozy and welcoming
Easy access (directly off freeway). They upgraded my room for free so I got one directly next to the elevator (which made taking my pups out extra easy). Staff was welcoming and check in was less than 5 minutes from arriving to getting my room key. Would stay here again if the need arose.
- BrandonMay 28, 2022Pass
Room smelled like pee.
- RobertMay 22, 2022Great Hotel
Room was very clean, staff amenable. This was the best hotel we have stayed at.
- JaymieMay 16, 2022Won’t stay there again
All the dogs seemed to be on the 3rd or 4th floor. Taking dogs in an elevator or up and down stairs is challenging. Very limited grass.
- JimMay 6, 2022La Quinta failure
I stay at La Quinta often and am usually very pleased. Not so at this La Quinta. Front desk staff were surly and abrupt. No room service. No place for my dogs to walk. The room as ok - clean, but small. Not a La Quinta that will stay on my list.
- JodieApr 25, 2022Good location
I would probably give 3.5 bones for the hotel. It's on the freeway but we asked for a room on the pool side so we didn't hear traffic at night. Our room was clean, had a fridge, microwave and a desk. The hallway looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while though. The hot tub didn't work and was roped off. Breakfast was ok - typical of this type of hotel with toast, bagels, waffle maker, yogurt, etc. There was not a very big grassy area for the dogs and the sprinklers were on in the evening and again in the morning, so I had to walk my dog in the dirt. There were some people in the parking lot that probably didn't belong there. I just made sure not to walk after dark.
- MarceyApr 12, 2022Awful
Old worn down hotel next the freeway. Bring ear plugs cause you will need it. The pictures must have been when it was brand new.
- JohnApr 12, 2022Tired hotel
Guest room tired, dirty and placed on top (5th) floor of hotel, which is not good for an older dog. Breakfast not served in lobby as advertised.
- PollyApr 12, 2022Beat up motel
Very disappointing, dirty, beat up, tub would not, drain, no amenities. Many other motels there so stay somewhere else.
- TeresaApr 9, 2022Nice
Nice, clean, and friendly staff. Pets are very welcome, saw many dogs and even some birds. I can always count on La Quinta!
- HaroldApr 4, 2022Convenient location
Very clean and comfortable!
- KymMar 22, 2022Great location
Clean and pet friendly.
- CarrieMar 18, 2022Friendly staff
Easy to get to location. Front desk staff are great. Clean room. Quiet and we all slept well.
- CynthiaMar 14, 2022Woof
Extremely noisy, windows not soundproof. One of the bathrooms didn’t have a lid on toilet. Worst night sleep ever in a hotel.
- StevenMar 12, 2022Big room, good price
Really large clean room and a decent price. Staff was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend.
- DouglasFeb 19, 2022Wonderful stay
We often stay at La Quinta when traveling with our large dog. This was a lovely property. The room and amenities were great.
- SandraFeb 15, 2022Looong day!!
The night desk clerk was welcoming & encouraging. Thank you!
- SandraFeb 8, 2022Friendly service
Being right next to the interstate highway, there was loud traffic noise all night. Room was comfortable and mostly clean. Could have used a bit more thorough vacuuming. My pups were intrigued by all of the crumbs in the corners. Ugh.
- LeslieFeb 1, 2022Good location
Room was nice but hotel in general is very worn down. The small couch in our room was absolutely filthy as were the tiles behind bathroom door and underneath the sink. The side parking lot backs up to I-40 and there were several homeless camps directly behind the hotel on the other side of a 5 ft fence. The area is pretty sketchy. But the bed was comfy and it’s a very convenient location
- KarenJan 31, 2022Good Location and large room
Right off Hwy 40. Big room and clean. Good beds, and pretty quiet. No fridge or Microwave, and we asked about the hot tub, they said it was available but it was not. Understandable under Covid restrictions but desk staff should have been aware of that information. Shower lukewarm, fine for most. Easy to get to Old town from there, taking the alternate roads to avoid morning traffic on 40.
- JanetJan 5, 2022Nice floor!
I really loved sleeping on your very comfortable floor (my humans won’t let me up on the bed). Lots of room in the King Executive Suite for me to cruise around! Unfortunately, I was unable to ignore the sounds from the cars on the nearby interstate highway at night. I had restless dreams I was chasing them all night! My humans really seemed to like this place - for me and them!
- Mary BDec 26, 2021Ok place
Easy on-off the 40 or 25.
- LaurieDec 26, 2021EXCELLENT
We decided to stop in Albuquerque and found this little gem. The people are so friendly and there are many places to walk your dog(s). I never heard anyone outside. My dogs did bark if someone let the doors slam. Room was clean and smelled clean. Bed was very comfortable.
- CHRISTELDec 7, 2021Nice clean rooms
Clean hotel and rooms. Only downfall was inside entrance and 3rd floor room with dogs. You could hear everyone coming and going and dogs were in high alert.
- TomNov 23, 2021Grateful
Awesome hotel, great staff, amazing rooms.
- LindaNov 21, 2021Great location!
Clean and comfortable beds. Close to good restaurants and the interstate.
- LisaNov 7, 2021Great location and beautiful room!
Lots of room, and great location!!
- ScottOct 30, 2021Decent stopover
Was good with pets but saw no pet area signs. Hotel showing its age, could use updating.
- JDOct 22, 2021Nice room
The room I had smelled like animal urine. 👎
- JimOct 20, 2021Albuquerque
Nice place.
- KathrynOct 7, 2021Ok for two pups
All dogs were on same floor, so there was a lot of barking, which made my dogs cry. Close to interstate and my dog could hear all the cars and would bark. Not super clean but adequate to sleep in.
- KathleenSep 28, 2021Clean and quiet
The only bad thing was we were on the third floor. Room was spacious, big enough for my 2 wolfhounds. The dogs could dine with us at the hotel on the patio.
- TinaSep 26, 2021Great location
Places to walk dogs by hotel.
- NicholSep 18, 2021Worked for our needs
This place was busy during our stay, and there were lots of dogs about! Nice large room however smelled like dog pee. Thank goodness my fur babies would never even think about going inside. I still felt comfortable here and my dogs enjoyed their stay
- JimSep 7, 2021Awful check in
Hotel itself was fine. Desk people could not problem solve a technical issue at check-in that caused me to stand at the counter for 2 plus hours while my wife and dog sat in the car. Something about the way BringFido’s reservation system and the La Quinta’s check in system weren’t working together.
- JoanneAug 14, 2021Great stay
Nice place, nice staff.
- AndreaJul 21, 2021Clean hotel, front desk staff needs help
Pros: The room was clean and comfortable. Convenient location near the interstate. Cons: While the staff were courteous and helpful the management needs to make sure they have at least two people to do check ins between 3-6 pm. The line got waaay too long with only one person working behind the front desk. Also the guest laundry washer wasn’t working.
- WendyJun 26, 2021Nice Hotel
We enjoyed our overnight stay. Staff was not super friendly but the room was decent and I could walk my dog around the area.
- QuintonJun 22, 2021Very strong urine odor in room
Possibly the nastiest room I've ever had at a dog friendly hotel. I kept my socks on as the carpet felt damp and clammy.
- KRJun 15, 2021Sketchy location & hotel in needs of repair
This hotel is in need of serious repair. The room smelled like animal urine so much so, that it took your breath away. I had to get ZEP air deodorizer from the front desk to spray in the room… one more bad scent. The fridge did not work. Black mold in the shower. Hole in the wall. Blood on the wall in the bathroom. Room just falling apart in general. It was an awful experience. Do not recommend.
- JudyJun 11, 2021Great location
Really nice hotel.
- MitchellMay 24, 2021Very Average for La Quinta
While still better than the nearby competition, this La Quinta is just average compared to other La Quinta inns. The area, and trash receptacles, is not kept up: too much trash lying about. I suppose it being at or near capacity might explain, but probably not. Room was interesting. I apparently decided not to get one with a microwave and, especially, refrigerator. My bad. Room was roomy which I liked. Desk chair was defective -- another indicator of neglect, in my view. Interesting shower (no tub; yay). Just a flat design which I liked. But, no shelves for soap, toiletries, etc. Room lighting and electrical outlet placement was mediocre. Dog exercise areas were quite good but again mostly neglected so lots of unnecessary trash. The hotel is right next to freeway so it's got a significant noise factor, but one cannot blame the hotel for that. On the other hand, the clientele was also noisy -- people and dogs up around 5:00am or so, loud talking in hallway plus barking dogs. Rude. Hotel staff, by contrast, was uniformly gracious, pleasant, and helpful. So, it's an OK stay for one night passing through, but one can almost say that about budget motels. Good staff, spacious room, decent dog area, adequately comfortable bed. On the downside: neglected maintenance, poorly designed (or maybe half designed) shower, rude clientele, noisy location. Not the usual La Quinta value.
- BettyMay 17, 2021Not good
Toilet did not flush, key card did not work properly, bad area of town, etc etc
- GabbyMay 11, 2021Not worth it
We arrived to the hotel after 13 hours of driving on a trip only for the front desk to say they couldn’t find out reservations even with the confirmation code we provided. 20 minutes later they finally found it. Additionally, this hotel is not in a good/safe area of town. Next door to the parking lot is an empty lot of homeless people camping in tents. There was even a grown man wandering around in his boxers. We had to go buy locks to lock up the rack on top of the car because we worried about people breaking in at night since they were loitering. Breakfast was also very minimal. Bread slices and old waffles. The room was clean at least, but I don’t recommend staying here. It’s worth spending more money elsewhere to be in a better location.
- AmandaMay 4, 2021It was pretty good.
Overall good stay, clean, nice staff, not the "best" location, but right off the 40. They did give you free breakfast, the thought was in it, but the "toast" was just bread, and the "waffle" was cold. I understand it is Covid, so it is hard to prep real food. they also gave hand sanitizer so that is a plus! Overall I would stay there again. La Quinta in general are great.
- MaryApr 30, 2021Off of the 40
As we drove up, I was worried about our security as Homeless encampment was on the other side of the fence. At Check in I was given #312, as I opened the door (with mask on) I could smell the strong urine smell (not even sure it was animal) we turned around back down to the desk. I was given a new room on the next floor up. Thank goodness it smelled fresh.
This LaQuinta needs an update. The carpets seemed well worn but the beds were comfortable for a 1 night stay. The 40 is next to the hotel, so if you like some freeway noise, you have it. (not bad if you are in an interior room) The potty areas were disappointing, the rocks are large for tender paws and the small grass area needed some grass. I did find more grass along the Fence next to the road. AGAIN! PEOPLE PICK UP AFTER YOUR PET!!! 😡 - JoshuaMar 17, 2021Great Location for a quick stay
We stayed here 1 night here. We driving across country and needed a place for us and the pups to relax for a night. The parking lot was occupied by a lot of oversized trucks taking up multiple spots and we had to park far from the entrance. The side door didn’t lock all the time and there was a security guard who would stand there to “keep the crackheads out” - his words.
Other than that, the room was big, clean and a ton of space for our pups to run around in.
- BonnieFeb 27, 2021Easy to find
Very clean and quiet
- KevinFeb 27, 2021Great Dog friendly hotel!!!
Thanks so much!! You made our cross country journey a breeze!!!
- PaigeFeb 4, 2021Don’t waste your money.
Dirty, disgusting, and sketchy. Stay at your own risk.
- BridgetteFeb 1, 2021Good
all dogs were on the 3rd floor so lots of dogs and lots of barking all night but super pet friendly and staff was amazing!
- ChristinaJan 27, 2021Poor location
Located in what I would consider not the greatest part of town. Room was fairly clean, however not the best areas to take your pet out.
- GraceJan 27, 2021Worse Than A Tent In Syria
My military husband said he’d rather stay in a tent in Syria... This hotel is old and smelly. Shower sucked and didn’t drain well. No duvet/comforter. The“blanket”on the bed was literally just a sheet that had a design. Basic rooms don’t come with a fridge and microwave, you have to upgrade. The fridge and microwave in the upgraded room were 100 years old and not clean. Worst La Quinta we’ve stay at!
- AlexisJan 22, 2021Good, convenient place for dogs
Stayed here passing through NM, very nice because I have a German Shepherd who is a little iffy about people and the place was very pet friendly, room on the first floor helped a lot being able to avoid busy stair cases or elevators! Clean nice room. Very convenient location right off the highway and lots of food around the area.
- CathyJan 8, 2021Just ok
Card keys sporadically worked on room and outside doors.
- ArunJan 2, 2021Smooth check in nice hotel
Hotel is very careful about covid. Checkin was smooth. The dog area was also good and clean. We had two of our dogs woth us. Room was quiet and comfortable also.
- ChrisDec 29, 2020Neglected hotel hidden behind a nice facade.
I've given 2/5 bone reviews to worse motels, but La Quinta Inns are hotels. I am rating this in comparison to other La Quintas where I've stayed and this is easily the worst.
It's near I-40 which is convenient for the access, though locals will warn you this is a high crime area so don't keep belongings visible in your car. In fact, I suggest doing as we did and bringing everything into your room. Lock your car then double-check your doors are locked. I live in a big city and I'll tell you right now, do NOT walk alone in areas like this late at night. Stay on the hotel grounds inside the gated area and if you need to go to the gas station, drive there. Lots of shady characters hanging around in crowds at the cheaper motels nearby and the gas stations. 99/100 times there is drug, prostitution, and/or organized theft activity going down and no good will come from crossing paths with these people.
There are many restaurants nearby but they're mostly fast food/chains. The hotel grounds are adequate: parking, plenty of areas for dogs to do their business, pet waste bins and bag dispensers. They have a cute mini-store with snacks and soda (not vending machines).
Now for all the negative experiences. If you're going to be open during COVID and generate revenue then you still need to maintain basic functionality of your property. I'm not accepting the excuse that all these problems happened in the last year and COVID is preventing you from fixing them. First, we check-in and get our keys but the card reader of the entrance door on the other side of the hotel near our room is broken! We get to haul our luggage all the way back around the other side. So fun after a 9 hour drive. Then we walk across the entire hotel's interior to our room and the keys don't work in our assigned room! YAY I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE! Apparently multiple customers are having this problem. Whatever system is programming your room keys needs to be fixed. We get the keys fixed and now we get to enjoy the failure that is the door handles. Pushing down, like a normal door handle..., does not work. We have to either jiggle the handle several times or pull up. It's a mystery because either technique is not a guarantee at any given time??
We got one washcloth put in our room for two people. The carpet is covered in stains. I understand pet-friendly hotels can't replace carpet constantly because it isn't financially feasible. You can still shampoo the carpet, which is also quite effective at upholding COVID protocols. These clearly haven't been cleaned in a month, possibly longer. They were very gross. The mattresses are very old, super soft, and sink in the middle. Do not stay here if you have a bad back. You've been warned.
- PrestonDec 24, 2020Great stay
Satisfactory accommodations. Bigger than normal rooms. Loved the no pet fee!
- SarahDec 19, 2020Great stopover on our trip
This is a typical La Quinta, nothing extraordinary, but it was the perfect stop over for us as we traveled home for Christmas. There were TONS of dogs staying here and it was super easy to deal with the pups. Hotel wasn’t brand new or anything, but it was super clean and did the job. The bed covers were clean and fresh, none of those gross comforters that they never change between guests.
We would definitely stay here again if we come back through the area.
- NadiaDec 16, 2020Great
The room was spacious, clean. Checking in was a breeze. Pet friendly.
- AngieDec 8, 2020great hotel
our room was nice, clean, and no issues with my dog. there's no grass on site, but still had corners designated for pet relief.
- LeaNov 21, 2020Friendly staff, ok rooms
Friendly staff, clean enough rooms, convenient location. Probably wouldn’t be my first choice to stay in Albuquerque again but it was fine for the night. Can’t beat no pet fees and no size restriction.
- ChrisNov 9, 2020Dirty and smelly
Place was filthy, towels were stained, floor wasn’t clean, grime on walls, smelled like someone must have Overdosed and died in the room. We weren’t able to feel comfortable and relax in the room so we hardly slept, wished we just drove through the night rather than stop there.
- LindaOct 5, 2020Old property
Needs some updating. Very nice staff. Gardeners need to clean up feces that dog owners neglect.
- StephOct 3, 2020Not great
This particular location is in desperate need of an update or at least a deep clean. The carpets were dirty, grimy, and overall gross. The sink was cracked and the shower was moldy. There were a couple of grassy areas for the dogs to go potty, which was nice. Definitely would not recommend staying here if other hotels are available.
- DaveSep 27, 2020Tired property
I have stayed at nice La Quintas, but this isn’t one. It started badly by being assigned to a room that was not prepared. Then waiting at the understaffed desk to get reassigned to a room where the door lock wouldn’t open. Then waiting another 20 make minutes to learn the trick to open the door. The entire property needs repair and updating, not to mention replacement of worn out beds. It was nice to have a place that accepted dogs, but my dogs couldn’t stop smelling the carpets and corners in the room...obviously many accidents took place. I won’t be returned by to this La Quinta.
- EmmaSep 13, 2020Clean
Very busy hotel, and staff were overwhelmed.
Basic room with no fridge or microwave., which wasn’t detailed.
Room was clean. - HannahSep 12, 2020Poop in hallway outside of our door
We were happy with our stay for the price we paid, however there was dog poop outside in the hallway of our door. The room smelled like dog pee and dog poop. I understand it being a pet friendly room but it felt unclean.
- TorenaSep 11, 2020Rough Night
location is handy but the road noise was ridiculous. Had to leave TV on all night so we could sleep. Filthy and dirty inside room. Worst bed ever. Homeless living all around property. If we weren't so exhausted we would have left. Had a hard time finding a place to take our dogs to relieve themselves that wasn't filthy.
- BrianAug 4, 2020Good for one night on a long road trip...
The first room they sent me to wreaked horribly of urine and I immediately had to go ask for another room, which they gave me. The other room was much better. Blankets are very thin. This is definitely not a hotel you go to for a long stay or if you're looking for more than a bed to crash in and leave early the next day.
- DanJul 21, 2020Smelly room
The carpet was stained in multiple places and the room smelled really bad. Super crowded and uncomfortable beds.
- KristinaJul 19, 2020Great location
This place was very pet friendly and had a nice little grass area for your pets to potty.
- TristaJul 19, 2020Dog friendly but area sketchy
The hotel had minimal amenities due to COVID-19. Only room coffee and no breakfast. Areas secure for walking dogs and hotel has a perimeter fence, which after spending a night in the area I can see why. Cops in the area twice, along with CSI van and ambulance. Drug activity and gunshots. If you are desperate and need an affordable place this place will do, but the area seems to be high in crime.
- ArleneJun 30, 2020Just okay
The location is t the best that’s why I gave it four stars but very dog friendly and nice people.
- CristinaJun 23, 2020Right off the Interstate
Lots of dogs and areas to walk your pooch.
- MorganMay 31, 2020Not The Best
Convenient stop off 40 with decent pet relief grassy area out by the entrance. Hotel was a bit run down and in need of some updates. Not very comfortable beds and no fridge in room. Floors were pretty gross, dogs would not stop sniffing the years worth of stains.
- LaurieMay 23, 2020Very good
I had requested 1st floor room which unfortunately they could not accommodate me, but everything else was good. I wish they would allow seniors some sort of preference because being on the 5th floor was difficult for me.
- MelissaMay 13, 2020Grass! Good location-lots of fur babies
Only hotel around that had grass on the property. Most people in hotel had a dog, some had two. Hotel was clean, did not smell of cats/dogs. No extras-due to Covid (pool use, or breakfast). Coffee in room. Lots of hotels in the area that accepted dogs. This one had several grassy areas for our dog. People from the other hotels were actually walking across the street for their dog to be in the grass.
- DesireeApr 27, 2020Pandemic Review
Super clean! Large dog friendly. Plenty of grass around for pup potty time. Would most definitely stay here again. No breakfast, due to Covid-19, but there is a small snack store.. Staff was friendly. Seemed quite. I’ll update after check out if I need to.
- RussMar 28, 2020Great!
Very clean hotel! Will definitely stay there again!
- CharlesMar 25, 2020Excellent staff
Excellent staff. Location close to I40.
- BrookMar 3, 2020Easy check in
- LynJan 23, 2020Guest Review
2nd time staying at this hotel, very nice place, big rooms, clean. Easy to find, great location
- HollyJan 23, 2020Decent Quick Overnight Stay
Overall we were generally satisfied. Beds were comfortable and clean. Breakfast was good however shower had mold in it and needed more thorough cleaning. Dog area was not very satisfactory not much better than stopping along the highway. Gave it at 3 because the beds were comfortable after a long day on the road but four family pet friendly hotel expected a little bit more thank you.
- CathyJan 2, 2020Great experience!
Location was perfect - just off 40. Hotel was very clean, staff was courteous and helpful. Breakfast was included and had a nice variety of choices. Very dog friendly.
- DanOct 20, 2019Noisy hotel
This hotel is good with dogs. Rooms on the side of the hotel facing I40 have a ton of highway noise
- CynthiaOct 19, 2019Room smelled like urine
All I can say is wow... I have stayed at a lot of La Quinta Inns and most all are really good except this one - pictures look great, lobby looks great, but the room was a disaster. The carpet had obviously been soiled on many times and smelled foul - really bad, if we hadn't just driven 13 hours we would have looked elsewhere. Windows were filthy, It looks like there is a newly renovated side of the building with numerous rooms, but it seems that all the dogs were on our floor - don't know if they didn't want dogs in their newly renovated suites. Even though almost every room had a dog, there was hardly any noise which was a big plus when you're tired. I would definitely not go back and would not recommend.
- MichelleOct 12, 2019Not bad
Wasn't as nice a La Quinta as we've been in before, but it served our needs for that one night.
- LawrenceOct 5, 2019Staff and facilities in dis array
First i was asked if i had a pet with us, ( long day i have little patience) i referred them to my reservation 2 humans 1 dog.
Next after issued keys go to room cannot get in , green lights visible but no entry. Return to desk notice a line but again i was tired, so as soon as the check in was finished I quickly as for either a new key or room as green light would not provide access. I was told “ lift up on handle” i was stunned. I asked how this is not in compliance with most normal doors. I was told installers messed up, but will work. They had no idea as to which rooms.
Now on to morning, by 6:30 am the reg coffee was gone. More was going to be brewed.
Oh my dog was happy with the clean room. I just didnt understand all rooms do not have mini fridge or microwave.
This was our second stay in a month. This was like Bates Motel! - Jeanne/anthonySep 29, 2019Super friendly and accommodating
Elevator was a little slow so if you’re in a hurry , take the stairs. Breakfast, eh . But accommodations for pets , very good!
- DebbieSep 26, 2019Cleanliness
Adequate lodging but not as clean as I remembered
- SimonaSep 17, 2019Good find
Huge, comfortable room. No pet odors. No fridge or microwave in the room, but we were able to use the microwave in the lobby/dining area. Big parking lot (doggie bags provided) to take your dog out. Not a ton of grass, but more than enough for us. The hotel is right off the highway but the room was incredibly sound proof. Short drive to Old Town Albuquerque.
- RobertAug 30, 2019LaQuinta west Arizona
First time we too Max traveled with us and it was really nice to find a place to stay that catered to our Max the room was very nice you wouldn’t know that any other pets had been there I would stay here again also was very nice that they don’t charge a pet fee
- MeganAug 11, 2019Okay Hotel
Staff was super friendly but that’s about all that was good. Rooms are outdated and the carpets make it obvious that it’s a pet friendly hotel and they look like they’ve never been cleaned. Most expensive hotel on our entire trip from SC to CA but definitely lack luster.
- JaneJul 27, 2019Great Dog Friendly Hotel
No dog fee, no size restriction, inexpensive and clean. The grass area had poop bags and trash can specifically for responsible owners. The room has everything you need and is clean. An easy stop
- ShawnJun 29, 2019Okay
Well it was okay, but the pet friendly room we were in was a bit beat up. Not all the amenities others mentioned. Wierd bathroom with non locking folding
doors like a closet. Broken sink handle, no big deal for some tired travelers and pets. Just okay and a bit beat up. A few grass areas for the dogs that served the purpose. Venturing out from the hotel on foot, look out as there are some people going through some hard times in a few spots. - DebbieJun 11, 2019Great Pet Friendly Hotel
Rooms were clean and large. Nice pool area with an area adjacent to the pool where pets were allowed. Staff was welcoming and breakfast area was large and not cramped. I would recommend for the price if you are here for a short stay as no fridge or microwave in our room but we did not need one for a one night stay.
- GaryMore than a year agovery dog friendly
Very high marks for this place if traveling with dogs. They followed up with me twice via email after i made our reservation. We were traveling cross country with small Morkie. They have two nice grass areas for pets to relieve themselves. Hotel supplied pop bags and trash bin in those areas. Room was clean and up to date. Air worked great. You must go in and out side door with pup and not through the lobby due to the layout of the breakfast area.
