Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Peru with your pet:
  • Peru is a high risk country for rabies. Before receiving an import permit to return to the U.S., travelers must obtain 2 pictures of their pet's front teeth, a CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record, a serologic titer from an approved laboratory and a passport photo of the owner. Once these items are obtained, apply for a permit for your pet to return to the U.S. at this link. For further guidance on returning to the U.S. with your pet from a high risk country, contact the CDC directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov
  • Obtain a health certificate from the country of origin. If you are traveling from the U.S., this should be a licensed and accredited veterinarian. This health certificate should include proof that a rabies vaccination has been administered between 21 days and 12 months of arrival. It should also include proof of vaccinations for Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, and Parovirus.
  • Pets must be microchipped for identification purposes.
  • Animals must be at least three months old to be permitted for entry into Peru.
  • Travelers with pets should arrive at Lima Airport, and will be directed to the SENASA Office to obtain a pet certificate for a small fee. There is also a fee charged by customs.

Quarantine Information

Pets traveling to Peru do not need to be quarantined if they meet all the necessary requirements listed above. Animals arriving without any of the requirements will be sent back to the country of origin at the expense of the owner.
