Entry Requirements
Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Sri Lanka with your pet:
- Sri Lanka is a high risk country for rabies. Before receiving an import permit to return to the U.S., travelers must obtain 2 pictures of their pet's front teeth, a CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record, a serologic titer from an approved laboratory and a passport photo of the owner. Once these items are obtained, apply for a permit for your pet to return to the U.S. at this link. For further guidance on returning to the U.S. with your pet from a high risk country, contact the CDC directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov
- Complete and submit an application for an animal permit (attached as PDF) online at the above link at least 2 weeks before arrival in Sri Lanka. This permit is valid for three months after the date of issue.
- Cats and dogs entering the country must be accompanied by a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian with proof of rabies vaccination included.
- Animals must enter the country at Bandaranaike International Airport for quarantine inspection.
- Upon arrival, you will need to pay a stamp fee of 5 Rupees and and a Customs fee of 250 Rupees for each pet.
Quarantine Information
Pets traveling to Sri Lanka are subject to a 30 day post-export quarantine at the owner's residence.
