Yummy Food

Bridge House BBQ

We were excited to find this BBQ joint in Boothbay as my husband and I are not big seafood people. They had a nice variety of meats, we each got a tray and were able to pick a meat and two sides. I had the pork and my husband got the brisket, both were delicious. You get a choice of sauces, we got the maple bourbon, it was great! The restaurant is also connected to the Footbridge Brewery so there is a variety of local beers to have. I don't drink beer, but my husband tried one of the blueberry beers and said it was good. I only wish there was more variety with the sides, some fries or veggies would be nice options.

Yummy Ice Cream!

Downeast Ice Cream Factory

We are not huge ice cream people, but decided to treat ourselves since we were on vacation. There was lots of different flavors and more than the standard you can get anywhere. I got he coconut chocolate chip and my husband got the ginger graham cracker, both were delicious! Please note that dogs are not actually allowed inside of the ice cream store, only outside at the tables. Not a huge deal as there were two of us, but may be useful for others.

Very dog friendly!

Mine Oyster

We ate here on our first night in Boothbay. Everyone was very friendly and we were surprised to discover that dogs are welcome both inside and out! We decided to sit outside to enjoy the view. We were brought a bowl of water right away. The food was great and very reasonably priced.

Fun Afternoon!

Cap'n Fish's Cruises

I was so excited to discover a boat ride that I could take my dog Jasper on! After looking at all the different options I decided on one of the 2 hour lighthouse tours, since it would be Jasper's first boat ride. Jasper was happily welcomed, as were the several other dogs on the boat. There are plenty of seats, and lots of room, Jasper spent most of the time sleeping on the floor. It was very foggy during our tour so it was difficult to see, but we all had a great time anyway. Something to consider, dogs are welcome on the boat but you have to purchase a ticket for them, it is $20, which is not that much cheaper than an adult ticket so it is kind of steep, but for us it was worth it to have our baby with us.

Such a fun day!

Boothbay Railway Village

I was so excited when I discovered the railroad museum is dog friendly! Jasper had a great time walking around and exploring everything. Dogs are allowed everywhere on the property, including the train and all the buildings. It was a pretty warm day and the woman at the ticket counter even took the time to get a cold bowl of water for Jasper.

Great trail!

Ovens Mouth Preserve

We had a great time hiking Oven's Mouth with our dog Jasper. There are two parts to this hike, the east and the west and they have different parking lots, although you can do both trails as they are connected by a bridge. We did the east side as it was described as being less strenuous and Jasper tends to get tired easily when we are traveling. The loop had a few inclines but nothing serious, and there were lots of spots to stop and enjoy the view. We had a great time hiking and looking out at the water.

Cute, small lighthouse

Doubling Point Lighthouse

We stopped at this lighthouse on our way up to Boothbay Harbor. It was a little bit off the highway, but easy to find with the GPS. It is down a private road and only accessible during the day. The parking lot is small but there was only one other car when we arrived. There is a small path to the boardwalk that leads to the lighthouse. Although this lighthouse is very small we had a great time exploring. It was a nice stop on our long drive.

Nice lighthouse, very crowded

Portland Head Light

We stopped at Portland Light on our way home to break up the drive. The park is much bigger than I thought and things are spread out. You have to pay for parking which I didn't realize before coming, machines take credit card only. The lighthouse was pretty but the entire park was extremely crowded. We came on a Friday around 11, so I didn't expect that many people. It was difficult to really enjoy the lighthouse because it was so crowded and noisy. We took a portion of the cliff walk which was nice and gave us some great views. If you and your dog like a more quiet experience, like we do, this may not be the best spot.

So much fun!!!

Rail Explorers

This was one of the highlights of our trip!! We took the south ride, as we wanted the break in between. You ride for about 40 minutes, take a half hour break, then ride back. The entire staff was very welcoming to our dog, and were excited to see him. I brought a blanket as dogs have to sit on the floor of the bike and it is black metal grate, it was a warm day so I'm sure it was hot, plus my dog is a diva and likes to be comfortable. The blanket was comfortable as he was able to sit and lay down during the trip. The noise wasn't too much and he didn't seem to feel the vibration at all. It was a little hot, but we had a cooling bandanna and water available. The break area was really nice, you get to sit on chairs overlooking the water. I only wish there was some shade as it was a pretty hot day and I was hoping my dog could cool off a bit before the return journey. Overall it was defiantly worth it to bring our dog, just make sure to prepare for the weather and bring something for your dog to sit on and be comfortable.

Great Dog Friendly Place

Jealous Monk

We came here with our dog while visiting Mystic. It was our first time taking our dog to a restaurant and it was such a great experience. They gave us a nice shady table with a breeze, it was a very hot day, and brought us out a large bowl of water, one of the staff even gave him some carrots which he loved. Very friendly, definitely would go back!

Fun place for dogs

Olde Mistick Village

Very dog friendly village. Lots of great places to walk and dog bowls all around. Some stores are dog friendly, most have signs posted specifying whether they allow dogs or not which was very helpful. Most of the restaurants in the village have outdoor patios which are also dog friendly

Fun Day!

Mystic Seaport Museum

My husband and I have always visited Mystic so we were so excited to find out we could take our dog! Dogs are allowed on the grounds only, they can't go in any buildings or on any of the big boats. However, you can rent a small boat and take your dog for a ride. We took the peddle boat which was perfect for the two of us and our small pup. They have water bowls all around the grounds as well. We went on a very hot day so we didn't stay long as there was no place to cool down, but you are able to come back for free on the same day so we brought our dog home to cool off and returned for a few more hours. A fun day for all!
