Stay elsewhere

Radisson Hotel Ames Conference Center at ISU

My husband, two daughters and I stayed here with our dog for one weekend night. It's pet friendly for an extra fee, and the website touts a kiddie pool. But boy, oh boy, where to begin? Upon check-in we requested a pack-n- play for the room, an amenity listed on the website, of which we never did receive. The front desk person said she wasn’t sure where they were but she remembered seeing them piled somewhere - her words. That’s ok we were able to make due without, I’m sure if we pressed the issue she would have come up with one for us.

The room hits you with a strong odor of dampness when you walk in. As my daughter was inspecting the room as young, curious kids do, she found a used pink women’s facial hair razor in the track of the closet door.

The kicker of our stay, and a big reason we chose this hotel over other options was the pool (especially since there is no free breakfast). The kiddie pool is a 6 inch sectioned off area, the plastic fence dividing the areas is cheap and flimsy. MY HUSBAND STEPPED ON A RUSTY NAIL IN THE KID POOL. He was not injured and just threw it away thank goodness because he stepped on the head portion, but it could have ended very differently if he had not been the one to find it.

For what you spend, with pet fee and taxes etc you are better off staying elsewhere. Due to the price point, the fact they have a restaurant and advertise it as a high end place to stay I was quite disappointed. It truly gives off Motel 6 level vibes. I’ve stayed in Ames many times and will stay in Ames many more times, however I will not stay here again.
