Better for dogs than people
Best Western Plus Richmond Hill InnGood things: friendly welcome, good grassed exercise area behind the hotel has bags and bins and good space, surrounded by woods, good coffee. Bad things: DirectTV, whose internet went out twice and needed 15 minutes to reboot, and which had no PBS. Odd smell in room. Very noisy intermittent air conditioner so had to be turned off at night. Key entry was troublesome, even after reprogramming. Breakfast area dominated by four noisy people in the middle table — not the hotel’s fault, but irritating for breakfast.
Super comfortable, great people
Hampton Inn & Suites Jacksonville Deerwood ParkVery friendly and well presented hotel. The only drawback is the lack of outdoor space for a dog — just a small margin around the well shaded parking lot. No dog park nearby, so we drove on south and stopped an hour later at Joe Pomar Park which was great.
Perfect break from i95
Joe Pomar ParkThere were three friendly old dogs in the big dog park so our two bichons frises joined them without any problem — it is true that the small dog area is very small. Well kept, shady park, and we walked around the sports fields too. We were ready and well stretched for the next leg of the journey.
Dogs were comfortable
Hampton Inn DunnSmiling faces greeted the dogs everywhere, there was a small but useful grass area for them, and a pleasant path around the hotel. Chilled water was there for us all. I would have given it five bones except that the shower did not work and there was only decaf coffee for me. So it took me a long time to wake up and take the dogs outside.
