Managers/Owners ARE TERRIBLE!

The Bull and Thistle Pub

EDIT: Changing to a one star review based solely on the rude and honestly disgusting response from the owners/managers, which if you read other reviews you will see the same childish behavior. I wish I could give negative stars now. First of all, I never once stated which night we were there, so to assume it was a "busy weekend" on a Saturday is preposterous. I would say 99% of my dining experiences NEVER needed a reservation, even when busy. The reservation is not the point, it was the fact that we were TOLD AT THE DOOR we needed a reservation but it was never noted on the website. The patio chairs were in fact CAKED with DIRT, along with the tables. They were SOAKING wet, which we told the man who seated us and he did not offer to dry them off or clean them. Also, if you paid for those tables and chairs you were completely cheated. It is a FLIMSY, PLASTIC table. ;);););););) The "vintage" chairs are completely falling apart. ;);););););) It is a SAFETY HAZARD! ;);););););) YOU CAN GET SUED IF SOMEONE IS HURT! ;);););););) There WERE NOT ANY chalkboard signs out when we were there. I will be sure to share this disgusting experience with everyone I know. I have been in this business for over 10 years and I would NEVER respond to PAYING CUSTOMERS this way. WE WILL NEVER BE BACK EVER AGAIN! ;);););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););););)

This was my first visit and I have mixed feelings about Bull & Thistle. The outside entrance is underwhelming and could use some sort of a welcome or entrance sign, but that is a minor detail. However, once you enter it looks nice, modern mixed with historic. Unfortunately, we were unaware we needed a reservation as it never stated so on the website. They were able to seat us on the patio but the patio was a huge disappointment after seeing the inside and the price of their specials. The tables and chairs were filthy and wet after an early afternoon rain. After rain you are supposed to wipe down any outdoor seating you will be utilizing for that evening. Not to mention, the tables were cheap and the chairs are what my 90 year old grandmother has falling apart in her basement. When I’m expecting to pay upwards of $30 for a meal I expect comfortable seating that I don’t fear will break if I have to turn my head to tell the waiter my order. I was visibly uncomfortable and I had made a comment about the terrible, wet, dirty seating with the manager next to our table and he never asked how we were doing, despite just asking every other individual on the patio how things were. It was a great opportunity for the manager to ask how we were doing and address the issues but he chose to ignore us completely instead. Moving on to the food. I was going to order the $39 Beef Wellington, but after the seating issue I didn’t want to invest as much into this dining experience for fear of more disappointment. I ordered The Jameson with the fried pork chop and it was delicious. Pork chop was perfectly cooked and the breading was beautifully crispy. My father ordered the fish & chips. He said the chips were good, but the fish tasted cheap. My mother ordered the Corned Beef & Cabbage and her corned beef was nothing but fat and her cabbage had the hard core in it which made it difficult for her to eat. The waiters and waitresses were very nice and did everything they could to make it an enjoyable experience for us. I’m just disappointed with the management and the lack of ambiance and comfortability on the patio. Also, my parents were underwhelmed by the lack of quality in their meals. I would indeed recommend The Jameson, but please make a reservation. I understand it gets very busy, but stating something on the website would be very helpful as we were perusing the menu on there. Overall, it was just an okay experience at the Bull & Thistle, nothing spectacular.
