Could Use Some Updates

Home2 Suites by Hilton Knoxville West

I have preferred Hilton properties in the past, but have found some slippage in quality over the past few years. Although this experience was not bad per say, there were some things I think could be improved, even without a pet. Upon checking in, I needed to wait for the staff to come back to the desk, on a break perhaps. It wasn't a very friendly greeting, just business as usual approach. I was asked to sign a pet policy which was xeroxed and NOT READABLE; it was very light and blurry which I felt was unacceptable. It was otherwise not explained verbally and I wasn't asked if I had questions either.

The room was clean, but the bed was too soft and very uncomfortable on my back. It probably needed to be rotated or a new mattress was needed. I requested the first floor booking in advance, but got the 5th floor, which isn't helpful for a dog needing to go out and noting a busy hotel. Breakfast was subpar, mainly packaged items and cold foods, assorted breads etc. They did have a waffle maker though. The pet areas are fairly small but a waste station and bags are available to clean after them. I probably wouldn't stay here again, esp. with the large number of other options in the area.

Outstanding Stay

Residence Inn by Marriott Knoxville Cedar Bluff

I was greeted warmly by staff upon check in to the Residence Inn and noted a few areas for my dog to relieve himself. The staff were friendly to us as well as our small dog. There were some messy areas on the grass plots for pets to do their business, but I cannot blame that on the hotel; they supplied waste stations which had bags and trash receptacles. Just be cautious since the parking lot can be busy and you have to cross the lot for some grass areas; I did not feel unsafe at all when going out at night. Pet owners need to be more responsible to clean the waste.

The room was very clean and comfortable, the bed was firm enough for my liking to get a great night's sleep. At night the hotel was quiet except for some highway noise, but it didn't affect my sleep. Breakfast had a variety of fruit, cold items and warm items such as scrambled eggs, sausage and waffles. I would definitely recommend this hotel and have only had positive experiences at Marriot properties. Much nicer than my stay a week earlier at the Hilton.
