Neglectful Organization

Arizona Humane Society

I am writing to provide an update on my previous review regarding the adoption process and the care provided to Mushu. Despite my initial concerns, I was hopeful when the adoption supervisor, reached out to me. However, our conversation left me disappointed and further frustrated.

During my discussion with the adoption supervisor, it became apparent that the primary purpose of her call was to check in on Mushu rather than addressing the concerns I had raised in my previous review. This lack of attention to the issues discussed in my review was disheartening and left me feeling unheard.

I explicitly conveyed to her that my review would not change unless I received clear explanations regarding the circumstances surrounding Mushu's mother being put to sleep upon arrival and access to the records of her littermates (who numbered six). In response, she connected me with the supervisor of sick and injured animals.

Unfortunately, I was unable to answer her call, and she left a voicemail attempting to address my concerns. Regrettably, the voicemail did not provide any coherent clarification. While the records indicate that Mushu's mother was euthanized upon arrival due to a prolapsed rectum and other injuries, she contradicted this information by stating it was a prolapsed uterus. This discrepancy raises significant doubts about the accuracy and consistency of the information shared by your organization.

Furthermore, she claimed that Mushu's upbringing was normal. However, I strongly disagree with this assertion. Organizations such as yours are expected to adhere to meticulous checklists and provide appropriate care. Yet, it is alarming to learn that Mushu was spayed at a weight of only 1.786 lbs, falling below the minimum requirement of 2 lbs. Moreover, the administration of a dog vaccine to a kitten is highly questionable and raises concerns about the standard of care provided.

During her time at the humane society, Mushu experienced multiple upper respiratory infections, which were treated solely with medication rather than a comprehensive effort to identify the underlying causes. Additionally, she was subjected to numerous medications as a fragile kitten. This approach seems insufficient and fails to address her overall well-being adequately.

I must reiterate my disappointment and frustration, as my initial review remains unchanged. It saddens me to note that I only received a call to check in on Mushu after my first review was posted. Regular communication and updates should be an integral part of your organization's commitment to the well-being of the animals in your care.

I implore you to take my concerns seriously and address them promptly and transparently. Animal welfare and responsible adoption practices are paramount, and I genuinely hope that you will take the necessary steps to rectify these issues and improve your organization's operations.
