Really poor attention to detail

We've stayed in La Quinta Inn with our pup in other cities and have always had a good experience. This one, however, not so much. As stated in another review it is definitely more of a motel than a hotel as all rooms lead to the outside, no indoor hallways. For starters, we had to wear shoes inside the room as our feet would turn black very quickly just walking around the room. The hard wood (vinyl) floors clearly had not been mopped or properly cleaned anywhere above a quick sweep/vacuum. We were put in the room that directly faces the elevators which, with very narrow halls, were about three feet from our door. The elevators were very noisy and the families using it were even more noisy. We were woken up constantly, at least every thirty minutes, all through the night until morning with families using the elevators. I don't blame them, they're on vacation and trying to have a good time. But it is the absolute worst place to put a room, or an elevator, whichever way you look at it. Every time we opened the door to our room we were engulfed by an enormous waft of old cigarette ash and discovered there was a large ash bin attached to the wall right outside our door, apparently for people who just needed to get that last drag in before hoping on the elevator??? Maybe ask if we're smokers before putting us in a room next to an ash tray. Anyway, this is the first La Quinta Inn we've visited that doesn't have a designated dog walking area or poop bags for guests (of course we bring our own anyway, so we managed). Overall just a bad experience with a complete lack of attention to any sort of detail from a maintenance or guest service standpoint. If you're looking for a quick one night stay for cheap then it works, but make sure you ask to not be near the elevators or an ash tray and you should already have a better experience than we did.
