Forget pet friendly; this chain is barely pet tolerant.

Drury Inn & Suites Mt Vernon

Please pay careful attention to the pet policy at the beginning of the listing for this hotel. It seems the Drury Hotel chain is willing to let a pet into a room, but that is just about all. Pets are not allowed in ANY public area, including the lobby (except to access your room), the business center, hallways (again, except to access your room), etc. We phoned this location to make our reservation, inform them we were bringing our dog, and request a room near an exterior door. We were informed of the $35 pet fee, but no other restrictions. You can imagine our reaction when we arrived and were handed a copy of their pet policy. We've been on the road for about a month, and stayed in half a dozen chains and about 20 different hotels. Never have we encountered such restrictive practices. While they tout their evening snacks and included breakfast, the prohibition against pets in the lobby area precludes having breakfast with my wife. Please note, that the dining and food service area is separate from the lobby; however, as the manager informed me, some guest might want to bring their food into the lobby, and then he would have to deal with a complaint from a guest that they had to eat with a dog sitting nearby. His solution was to suggest that, as previous guests had done, we take our dog to our vehicle and lock him in it while we ate. In fairness, he did suggest that would probable not be appropriate on a hot day (Well bless his heart!) The solution he offered us: he was willing to find us a room in a different hotel. Given the hours we had been on the road and the lateness of the day, we declined. However, we have no intention of staying at a Drury Hotel again, with or without a pet. While the hotel is very nice, I would recommend that all individuals traveling with pets look elsewhere until Drury adopts a more reasonable pet policy across their chain. In the meantime, I suggest that the management simply tell it like it truly is and let people know that pets are not welcome.
