Convenient and reasonably priced

Days Inn by Wyndham Wytheville

We were driving from SC to Pittsburgh, and this was the perfect midway point. Right at the major route intersection. Front desk attendant was friendly and helpful. King bed was fine—nothing to write home about, but comfy enough. The room had that musty smell that some older places have, but it was clean, and switching on the AC seemed to take care of things. Breakfast had an on-demand, no-touch pancake machine, instead of the ubiquitous waffle irons (they feel that waffle irons and kids aren’t a great combo), and they were surprisingly good for needing a very short time to prepare. Morning staff also very friendly.

Basic old style Motel 6

Motel 6 Pendleton Or

Many have been renovated, but this one just felt old. Room was small and bare. Bed was sleepable, not super saggy, but definitely lower in the center. Had the newer synthetic wood floors, so at least you weren’t walking on old grimy carpets. Nothing in the morning but coffee. Staff were very nice. Bottom line: $100 (after taxes and fees) seems high for nothing more than totally bare bones place to sleep in a smallish town. If it were $50-$60, I’d be ok staying again if I just wanted to come in, sleep, head out. At this price, I’d look around for something a little more expensive with nicer ambiance and a hot breakfast which we found in other smaller towns while driving from SC to Portland OR.
