Just ok
Quality Inn Troutville - Roanoke NorthWas disappointing to arrive to check in and the first words out of the front desk person's mouth was "dogs are not allowed in lobby." This hotel may allow dogs in room but is not very dog friendly. Also, desk clerk charged me dog fee (expected) but when I asked for receipt the next morning it was not listed on my folio. Rather I was told my folio was marked as service dog and no fee had been charged. After much discussion and insistence on my part, I was emailed a receipt for the charge. Room itself was clean.

Would stay again
Comfort Inn West MonroeThe room was clean, almost so far as to say spotless. Even the grout in the bathroom was white and clean. Check-in was easy. Staff was very helpful, even stepping out of their "regular" role to assist with a maintenance concern (needed new batteries for remote). Potty area was one of the cleanest areas I've seen in a dog friendly hotel. Only negatives: barking dog in next room. Not their fault the dog was not comfortable being left alone but the barking could easily be heard between the 2 rooms, which meant my dogs had to deal with not responding to a barker. Safety lock on door was damaged and so we couldn't use it. Tub shower pull was stuck in up position so shower was the only option.

A nice stay
Motel 6-Van Horn TXAs this property had pretty mixed reviews I wasn't real sure what I would find. Happy to say better than I expected. From the friendly helpful service to a clean room the experience was ok. Area for dog's to potty was stocked with poop bags. It could maybe have been a little bigger and used some TLC but overall it was clean and close. Value for price was good.

Never Again
Red Roof Inn Van HornI have stayed at many Red Roof Inns so have a decent idea of what to expect. This didn't even come close. Key didn't work and had to go back to desk. Hallway reeked of smoke. Floor of room was gritty. Window wouldn't close completely. Remains of a dead insect on phone. Bed reeked of some strange scent. In fairness I think it was their detergent as bed looked clean but the smell was terrible. Honestly if I hadn't arrived so late, at midnight, and already been up since 4am I would have left and demanded my money back. I had a blanket in my car which I threw over the bed and dozed in and out until I got up and hit road in early morning hours. On positive...the desk clerk did walk me back to room to be sure the second key worked.
