Choose another hotel! Area is not safe!

La Quinta Inn by Wyndham San Antonio Vance Jackson

This was my first trip to SA. After a long 20hr drive from Salt lake to SA all I wanted to do was check in and get settled in. When I arrived The receptionist was stuck on her personal phone. I greeted her then told her I wanted to check in. She insisted that I didn’t have a reservation at this hotel. I had to show her my confirmation email five times! She kept asking for it rather than verifying the information she needed and writing it down. What seemed like thirty mins had passed she found a print out of my reservation.
She later informed me that I had to pay a fee for my two fur Babies. She asked for their weight and said I have to charge you a fee of $150! I informed her that on Fido they are listed as “NO PET FEE” she went on to say that the hotel doesn’t go based on third party pricing and that their company sets their own pricing. WTF!
As we were discussing that matter the phone rang. She abruptly stopped our conversation picked up the phone and chatted away for 15mins. I had to get her focus back on getting me checked in which she did. As I walked away she yelled behind me that she needed a copy of my drivers license and card on file for security purposes. This hotel seemed very disorganized and staff need a major Attitude Check!!! The hotel in general was run down. The room reminded me of “Married with Children” decor.
Late that night I went out to grab some dinner. I saw about two people in the back of the hotel living out of their cars bumping music. The area was pretty ghetto... think of LA MacArthur Park Ghetto. In the morning as I was driving out the back parking lot I see this homeless man run out of one of the hotel rooms and jump the fence to the other side of the street. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Is this a common occurrence in San Antonio?
To sum it all up I would not stay here again. The only benefit to staying here was that I was able to book a room in the first floor in front of the grass area for my babies and the convenience of having a Starbucks and a Mexican food joint at the other end of the parking lot.
