Call before booking

Ocean Cove is a bit confusing. The VA beach directory and their own Google page say they are pet friendly but their property and website say they are not. Basically management must approve any guest with pets and it's not clear what that approval is based on. I called ahead to confirm the reservation and found this out. Management handles this property as a part time gig meaning they aren't there (weren't there at check in or check out times) and don't really know what they are doing. The owner of the place couldn't even check me in because he's not "tech savvy" and the staff argued with me on the city's dog policies which was an unpleasant way to start my trip. The rooms are no frills dated motel rooms with a strange scarcity of functioning outlets. We charged all devices on the bathroom sink. We were charged 150 per pet plus 20 per night, 150 is supposed to be refunded but I'm not confident it will happen. Also, there isn't any place the dogs can go potty other than a skinny patch of mulch. The super positive thing about this motel is the location. You have two dog friendly restaurants practically across the street and are in the middle of all that is going on. Despite being on the busy street the rooms are surprisingly quiet as well. If not for the location and the lack of affordable options which allow larger dogs I probably wouldn't return to this location.
