Not so pet friendly (or pet owner friendly)

AC Hotel by Marriott Portsmouth

Yes, my dog was able to stay in our room at this hotel. Hence, the one bone rating. But no friendliness or
welcome was extended to me, my family member, or my mini goldendoodle. This was my first time bringing my dog to a hotel, and upon check in I immediately felt like I was being treated differently because I had my pet with me (unless the staff is just generally unfriendly which I guess is also possible). It seemed like the hotel did not want my well-behaved dog there EVEN though they advertise as pet friendly and EVEN though I was paying a $100 pet fee for my one night stay. They could not provide us with names of any dog friendly restaurants or activities in the area. I actually felt like I was getting glares anytime I walked through the lobby with my dog. I would not bring my dog here again or stay here again period due to the lack of hospitality that was extended during our stay. Would not recommend.

Accommodating and Friendly Service

The District

We were worried about finding a place to eat lunch with our dog on our visit to Portsmouth because it was raining. Even though the restaurant’s main outdoor area was closed because of the weather, they found a table for us on their small covered patio. My puppy received a lot of love and attention from staff. Food was good too. Good choice if you are in town with a dog as we were turned away from several other restaurants with outdoor seating areas that would not allow pets.
