Great Place to stay with your dogs!

Friendly, accommodating place. Rooms were very clean and comforting and had a fridge & microwave. After 2 days on the road, we were relieved to stay somewhere that put not only us but our dogs at ease. Plenty of places to eat. Some within walking distance. Plenty of areas to walk the dogs. While I had heard that it can be hit or miss with La Quinta locations, I can say for definite that the La Quinta in Effingham is a hit in our book. We even booked it for our return trip and it did not disappoint the second time either.

Older hotel, nice stay but no elevator

We needed a dog friendly overnight stay and booked here because it seemed to meet all our requirements. By the time we checked in at 7 pm they were out of first floor rooms. It seems construction workers and out-of-towners for a local event had beat us to all the downstairs rooms and the staff could not accommodate our request for a first floor room. This was a disappointment because the hotel did not have an elevator and we have a 90 lb German Shepherd with back leg issues who had great difficulty trying to get up & down the old narrow steps (10 steps, then a landing followed by another 10 steps).

We wound up having to carry her. She refused to walk up past the first flight because she had a very rough time navigating the awkward stairs and became anxious & unsure of her footing. Carrying her proved to be a chore but we made due. The room was clean but very dated. There was an old wing back chair in the room with a reading lamp behind it. Both had seen better days and had worn-in stains on the headrest of the chair & the lampshade. It was a little off-putting but everything appeared to look and smell clean especially the bed linens. The room has half vinyl floor, half carpeted floor. It also has in room microwave & refrigerator. Overall it was a good, comfortable, quiet stay. Staff was friendly and check-in was easy.

Clean, no frills overnight stay

We were looking for a quick, dog friendly overnight stop and found ourselves here. Front desk check-in was friendly & efficient. Room and beds were very clean. Refrigerator & microwave were available in room. Towels were small and rough but were clean and got the job done in terms of drying. Only drawback was that most of the restaurants (even the fast food ones) close between 7-9pm so by the time we got settled after our 7:30 pm check in, it was a scramble to figure out what was still available and order something before they were shut down.
