Pleasant stay!

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Bakersfield CA

My stay at this Country Inn and Suites was very pleasant. First and foremost I felt safe. The staff was friendly. It has good amenities, like a decent lobby, a pool/sauna, work out room and the convenience of shopping right next door. There are plenty of green grassy spots to walk the dog in the shopping center parking lot next door to the hotel as well which was convenient and nice to have for a night walk.

I like that the rooms are situated away from the street and our room was not next to the parking lot so it was nice and quiet. I am only taking away one bone because I did find a dead roach in the room and my room window was facing a CMU wall. Not that I needed a great view for one night, but some plants would be nice.

The room decor was fairly modern and the room/bathroom felt nice and clean and comfortable. I also enjoyed the continental breakfast and was rested and prepared for my long drive. My dog was at ease as well which is always a good sign. Thank you for caring, Radisson. Some of these other hotels can learn from your practices.

Never again

Super 8 by Wyndham Bakersfield/Central

Clearly everyone has different standards when it comes to hotels/motels. I'm not sure in what hospitality world that having a comforter on the bed with several cigarette burn holes and dirt smudges on it for your hotel guests is acceptable. Holes in the furniture and a bathtub that no matter how much you clean it, it still looks like a tractor left tracks in it. Even my dog was uncomfortable in the room. Her behavior was odd has she normally likes to explore the room. She did not in this one. One reason I discovered later is because there's a big spider in the closet area. On my way out, I also noticed another small bug crawling along the side of the bed.

Since I had a dog they put me in the room that was near the street so it was very noisy which kept me and the dog up. Not a good scenario for a long drive in the next morning. There's a large houseless population in the area which I have compassion for yet I'm not willing to sacrifice my safety. There was literally a homeless man who I saw try enter in my room while I was walking my dog just across the way. Later on when I got back after picking up some food, he was back standing near my door watching me enter my room. He clearly had some mental health issues. I was traveling by myself so that was a bit scary. I understand that this is difficult to control what is happening outside on the street, but the condition of the room was absolutely unacceptable. Even at the lower price point, there should still be basic standards of cleanliness.
