    Best Dog-Friendly Beach I’ve Visited

My pup had a blast at Cannon Beach. She loves the water but waves tend to spook her. Fortunately, there was a calm pool of water separate from the ocean.

The day we visited, the beachgoers were very respectful of everybody’s space. I never once had a problem with poop on the sand, anybody’s dogs, or garbage.

If you’ve got a water-loving pup, you must visit Cannon Beach. It is a fantastic location.

A must visit for your dog

Amazing views, lots of running space for your dog, everyone has a handle on off-leash dogs. Water, sand and a bit of grass for all your dogs needs.

    Love the beach!

We live in Arizona and wanted to find a place that was a lot cooler and dog friendly, boy did we find it!

    Loved It!

Our pup had so much fun! I’m not sure how much of the Beach is off leash but that part we were at had signs allowing your dogs to go off leash as long as they recall on command. Our pup ended up having to go back on his leash because he was having a little too much fun chasing the birds. There were lots of other dogs for him to play with but it didn’t feel crowded at all. I can’t wait to go back!

    Amazing

I took my dog to Cannon Beach from 8/4 - 8/8, and it was amazing! This is truly a dog-loving area.

We stayed in a studio/suite at The Ocean Lodge. The lodge is directly on the beach, and the studios are in a row directly behind the lodge, separated by a small road. You won't see the ocean from your deck, but you will hear it in the evening.

The rooms are pricey but are worth every penny. When you arrive, there are dog bowls full of water as you walk up the outside stairs to check in in the main lodge building. Dog biscuits and coffee are available 24 hours a day near the reception area. Some places in the lodge are off limits to dogs, so if you're travelling alone with your pup, call ahead to find out who the local dog sitters are if you want to go somewhere where dogs aren't allowed.

In your room, you will find be a doggy basket full of treats for your dog as well as a bowl, towels and sheets for your dog to use. There is also an outside dog shower near the lodge as you come from the beach.

Most restaurants will allow dogs in their outdoor eating area.

Sunrise walks on the beach, playing fetch in the ocean, lying in holes in the sand children dug the day before - I can't say enough about how wonderful this place is.

The general vibe is that your dog is cool. People jogging on the beach are on the lookout for uninvited dogs who want to jog with them, but they get it; the dogs are part of the wildlife and scenery. You'll meet plenty of awesome people who will chill with you while your dogs play.

You will find many dogs running off-leash. Technically, that's not allowed. What will get you fined, though, is not cleaning up your dog's waste. Not cleaning up after your dog in general is terrible behavior that affects how others view dogs on beaches, hiking trail, even in the city. When my dog (6-month-old lab mix puppy) stopped coming on recall, it was time to put her on the leash.

My dog had never been to a beach with real sand. Here in Washington, the beaches are pretty rocky, and some have barnacles. This trip afforded her the opportunity to be in real sand, to swim in breakers - just a great experience all around.

    Off leash beach

We were there for March Break 2015. Almost all dog owners had their dogs running free on the beach. My Golden was in heaven.

    Wow! Dogs Rate Here!!!

What a perfect day for me and my Vizsla Pup! We were welcome at restaurant patios, in shops all offering dog cookies. The beach was totally off leash (except the immediate area around Haystack Rock) and OFFLEASH!!!

    Great Beach

We couldn't let our dogs off-leash because there were too many dogs and birdies to chase but they still loved it. Dogs are allowed off-leash on this beach though....or at least it seems to be a common practice. Amazing views, flat and easy to walk from one end of town to the other. We caught one of the gret sunset days too.
