Dog Mountain

Dog Mountain is THE meeting place for dogs with their people. Located in the breathtakingly beautiful Northeast Kingdom of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, this 150-acre farm has been transformed into a doggy playscape complete with swimming ponds, hiking trails, an art gallery full of dog-related artwork and the only Dog Chapel in existence. The Chapel, built by Vermont folk artist and children's book author Stephen Huneck, is visited by thousands annually to reflect and post message and photos of pets that have passed on. The Chapel walls are covered in layers of heartfelt notes. Dog Mountain hosts a number of annual events, including Memorial Day Celebration, August Dog Party, and October Dogfest. Visit Website

    Best Place Ever

Our senior dog absolutely loved this place! There’s ponds , creeks and hiking trails, grassy fields, an agility course, a fenced in play area for those who need more structure and the dogs get to go to the gallery and chapel! Such a cool place

    Wonderfully fun!

We loved looking at and reading the many notes in the wall of the sanctuary. The people and dogs were all so friendly. We highly recommend a stop here if you are in VT.

What a beautiful place! Amazing property. Plenty of trails and ponds. The cathedral is a beautiful tribute to our lost family members.

    Best place for dogs ever

This is by far the best place I have ever been to as a pet lover. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend you to check it out. They even have a dog chapel as a memorial to our friends that have crossed the rainbow bridge. Inside the museum is dog friendly on a leash, and the grounds are off leash dog friendly. They have multiple trails and ponds for the pups.

    Incredible place for dogs

You have 150 acres to explore here, all off-leash (expect for the gift shop). Reviews that describe this as small must have missed out on quite a bit, or just didn't consult their maps before going. Visit in the fall for hikes and panoramic views to watch the leaves change!

    Fun visit

Had a fun little visit with our dog. Small pond for dogs to swim in, lots of land to run around. Basically a very big dog park. Had a little agility course my dog loved. Dogs allowed in gift shop and dog chapel. Would stop by again if in area or maybe come to an event.

    Very Special Place

We visited in Oct 2019 and planned our route to stop here. It's a really special place full of dogs and dog lovers. Lots of space for the dogs to run free and play, with beautiful views for their humans. The gallery had lots of fun dog art, with options to fit all price ranges. The chapel demonstrates how beloved our dogs are to us! Make sure to take pictures of any dogs who have crossed the rainbow bridge to leave in the chapel!

    Ok But Not Great

I’m not sure what I was expecting but I thought this place was disappointing. the church by far was the best part with all the dog pictures and notes but otherwise this place was very boring. the swim hole was nasty and there is no way I would let my dogs near it. the play area was small and there was nothing else to do but walk around a mowed trail.

Nice place to Stop If You’re Passing Through

Beautiful grassy hills and trails for dogs to run free. The pond is a little mucky looking but dogs enjoyed playing ball. The Chapel is something special. I sat and said a prayer for my beloved Jakey.
Gallery is nice, a little overpriced for copy’s of prints, but I know nothing about art. Overall I wouldn’t make a trip just to go there unless you are planning to bring a picnic and stay awhile, but definitely worth stopping if you are passing through the area.

    The Best. The Most Magical.

Dog Mountain is, hands down, the most magical dog park we’ve seen. Home to Dog Chapel, the Stephen Huneck Gallery, sculpture garden, acres upon acres of grassy fields overlooking the hilly Vermont countryside and network of wooded trails - simply the best off-leash playground for dogs and owners alike. 10 out of 5 recommend. Also be sure to check out their social events and concerts! SO much love for this truly unique gem!

    Heaven on Earth

This is a magical place. I always feel spiritually rejuvenated when we leave, despite being sad that we have to go. The staff are wonderful, the store is fantastic, there aren't enough words to positively describe this place.

    A MUST-SEE DOGGIE RETREAT (FROM A CHIHUAHUA MIX'S PERSPECTIVE)

My big brother, sister and I, along with my Mommy and Daddy, spent the morning at this fetchingly (pun intended!) relaxing and dog-friendly retreat. We were able to honor lost dogs at the thoughtfully-designed dog chapel and enjoyed our time in the gift shop, meeting a really sweet black lab named Sally. The dog-themed artwork was amazing and Mommy and Daddy purchased several pillows that I'm pretty sure will become my new favorite resting perch!
My brother, sister and I, along with the rest of the dog community are so thankful to those who designed and continue to maintain this beautiful, doggie-centric attraction.

    Worth the 12 hour drive!

We drove from Michigan to Vermont on a road trip with our dogs to check out Dog Mountain and we were not disappointed! There are two trails along the mountain - blue and yellow. Heads up - the yellow trail is sometimes closed if it has rained a lot. There are also 2 ponds for the dogs to swim in. Note that the park is not fenced so be sure you are able to recall your dog, especially because the ponds are close to the parking lot. Wonderful experience! Riley's Fish Shack is right down the street and has a dog-friendly outdoor patio if you are looking to eat nearby.

Is this heaven? It’s Dog Mountain.

Dog Mountain and the Chapel are to dogs and their families as what Ray Kinsella’s Field of Dreams is to baseball and its fans! Heaven!

Awesome place to meet dog people and have fun!

Dog Mountain is a truly special, unique place! You won't see anything else like it. Nestled in the rolling hills of Vermont, it is a gathering place for locals and travelers to let their dogs play, hike and explore. They have several hiking trails the dogs can come on, short and long, two natural ponds the dogs and jump and play in, an amazing small quant Chapel with dog pews and posts of deceased loved pets from around the word all over the walls between the stain glassed windows, a gallery of fun amazing dog art, dog agility course and dog training classes on site by local trainers and this summer a concert series where dogs were welcome. It is great to visit on a quiet morning or a sunny afternoon. My dog loves coming to Dog Mountain every week!

Perfect for for any dog owner

This place makes our little puppy Charlie so happy! There are several trails that are easy to moderate. With no leash rules in place, this is perfect for letting your dog roam and meet other dogs. We keep going back to this spot. You will not be disappointed.

Heard so much about this place that we had to check it out for ourselves.. We took our 1 1/2 yr old black lab,Bella a couple of weeks ago and she was truly in 'Dog Heaven', she LOVED it there sooo much (along with my husband and I) So, we're going to take Bella back for the October Dogfest! Peace and joy

My Collies and I visited there in August 2012, and loved the opportunity to frisk and play in their wildflower fields. The gift shop is incredible (I got most of my Christmas shopping done there!) , and dogs are welcome even there! We stayed overnight at the Marshfield Inn. Wonderful folks there, too!

    none

Dog Mountain should be #1. Do any of the other dog parks have chapels for your deceased canines and a gift store with running water?
