    South Rim - Dog Friendly!

We loved taking our dog on the South Rim path. We would recommend you take Fido in the morning before tour buses roll in so there are less crowds. This is one of the only national parks that’s dog friendly!

    Unforgettable views!

Had the best time walking the rim with our pup and watching the most breathtaking sunset at Yavapai point. Wish we were able to spend some more time here. As everyone else mentioned, you’re limited to the rim trail and dogs are required to be on leash at all times. They are not allowed in gift shops or on shuttles, but that really didn’t affect our trip. We were able to enjoy the sights and the trail without issue. It can get very hot in the summer so remember to always keep water on hand to keep them hydrated! We were so grateful we got to experience this our pup. Can’t wait to go back.

    A great walk for dogs

Although dogs are allowed on leash on the pathways, we were the only ones who took our pet. She loved the attention from follow tourists and enjoyed the quiet walk further west of the hotels where walkers thin out. There are kennel facilities but we never inquired.

    Wonderful time

I know that you are limited in places to take your dog but we planned ahead and knew where we could go with Blue. We enjoyed driving around and stopping and looking at the beautiful scenery. We took the paths at many of the pull out which was fine for us since we are not big hikers. Blue enjoyed taking in the sights. I guess my recommendation would be just to plan ahead.

    Grand Canyon West Rim

The West Rim is beautiful but you cannot drive to the canyon. You can only drive to the parking lot and access the canyon by bus. That isn’t a big deal except dogs are not allowed on the bus. There are kennels on-site available for the day if you want to board them. The closest to the Canyon you can get with your dog in tow is the South Rim, which is about 4 hours from the West Rim. Needless to say, our day took a dramatically different turn once we found out that tidbit of information.

    Great Park

We went to the South Rim and had a few hours to check things out. We parked in lot 2. Restrooms and visitor center (closed for covid) there. Its a nice quick 5 min walk to Mather Point. We continued northeast on the rim trail towards Yavapai Point. Walked as far as we liked, took pictures and enjoyed the view. Other guest had there dogs too! My pups enjoyed and passed out once back in the car.

Check the site for closures & more specifics about where your dog can and can’t go. Also the BARK Ranger passport that was mentioned on the site was not available. Bring water and there weren’t any trash cans where we went (mentioned above), so we had to hold the poop bags (not a big deal) just wanted to put it out there.

    Not dog friendly

We spent 1 week at the South and North rim. Not dog friendly. Dogs not allowed on any trails. Signs posted everywhere, we have 2 toy poodles and the rangers told us we couldn’t even carry them

No dogs below rim! Used the kennel on grounds.

Thank you for having a kennel on the grounds. Therefore, I was able to go day hike with family below the rim while my dogs stayed in their kennel in the morning.

    Limited Access... No Trails

You can not take your dog on any trail in the park. Dogs must be leashed in visitor centers. They may not go inside any buildings. There is limited water.

    Lots of places to walk

You can venture anywhere with your dog above the rim. Great for dogs as long as they are leashed.

    Amazing

We've visited the Grand Canyon several times with our pack, and it's always serene and beautiful. Just remember some basic safety tips. Always carry lots of water for both you and your pups. And go early in the morning before it gets too hot for the dogs. Have fun!

    Walking the rim

Great walking my dog along the rim. No, you can't go hiking down the canyon, but that was OK for us. Just keep your dog on the short leash if they chase squirrels, you are right near the edge at places! Also very handicap accessible
