Pet Friendly Otter Falls Trail
Otter Falls Trail You'll find great walking and biking paths down to a beautiful river and falls on the dog-friendly Otter Falls Trail in Seven Devils, NC. There's also a nice parking lot too, although it does get busy on weekends. Leashed dogs are welcome, as long as they are well-behaved and cleaned up after. Benches are provided at each trail intersection, and also at viewpoints. There's an observation deck located adjacent to Otter Falls at an elevation of 3,620'. The park may be closed in extreme weather, so check the town's website alerts page for updates. See Details

Whiteside Mountain National Recreation Trail Whiteside Mountain National Recreation Trail is a pet-friendly hike in Nantahala National Forest in Cashiers, NC. The hike is nearly 2 miles long and will take you to beautiful wildflowers along the way. Dogs are welcome on the trail, as long as they are cleaned up after and remain on a leash. See Details
Moore Cove Falls Trail Moore Cove Falls Trail is pet-friendly. This 1.2-mile trail leads to a 50ft high waterfall that pours over a rock overhang. Goose Creek State Park Goose Creek State Park is a pet-friendly recreation area in Washington, NC. This park offers over eight miles of trails that include boardwalks over wetlands. Secret Falls Trail Head Secret Falls Trail Head is a pet-friendly trail in Highlands, NC. This 45 minute brisk walk leads to a 35 foot high waterfall and small lake below. Nelson Acres Leashed dogs are welcome in the pet-friendly Nelson Acres recreation area in Pilot Mountain, NC. Visitors can enjoy a walking trail that spans just over three miles through the woods of this park or a cut-through path if looking for a shorter stroll. Flat Rock Loop Trail Flat Rock Loop Trail welcomes leashed dogs on a hike through beautiful North Carolina. This trail is under a mile and leads to great views across the forested area. Ararat River Greenway Dogs are welcome to join their owners for a nice walk on Ararat River Greenway in Mount Airy, NC. The greenway begins at Riverside Park, runs beside the Ararat River, and continues to Tharrington Elementary School. This pet-friendly trail spans just over two miles in length and is mainly paved. Highlands Biological Station Highlands Biological Station in Highlands, NC, is a dog-friendly native plant botanical garden with flat trails for owners and their dogs to walk along. The 12-acre botanical garden features native azaleas, plants of the Cherokee, mosses and liverworts, wildflowers, butterfly-pollinated species, and rock outcrop species. At 3,800 feet, it's the highest public native plant botanical garden in the east. The HBS Gardens and grounds are open year-round, dawn to dusk, and are free of charge. Bass Lake Park Enjoy a day of outdoor activities at Bass Lake Park, a dog-friendly recreational area in Holly Springs, NC. Bass Lake Park offers opportunities for biking, hiking, fishing, boating and picnicking. Skewarkee Trail The Skewarkee Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Williamston! The map below shows a parking area with convenient access to the Skewarkee Trail. Featuring elevations to 3,000 feet, an 80-foot waterfall, mountain streams and more than 40 miles of trails for dogs and their owners to enjoy, this park is a must-visit for outbound hounds. Town Creek Indian Mound State Historic Site Town Creek Indian Mound, a pet-friendly place in Mount Gilead, NC, defies typical archaeological patterns with over 50 years of continuous research. Set along the Little River, it offers a 1/4-mile nature trail featuring diverse flora and outdoor exhibits on native species. Picnic areas are also provided for visitors wanting to enjoy a meal or relax. Dogs are welcome on a leash, but aren't allowed in any buildings. See Details
Graveyard Fields Trail Graveyard Fields Trail is dog-friendly and located in Canton, NC. The trail is a moderately easy, 3.4 mile hike in the Pisgah National Forest that will take about 2 hours to complete with Fido. This trail was named for the devastating fires in 1925 and 1942, but still offers plenty of beauty. The well-marked trails will bring you by two waterfalls, a river, blueberry bushes, and still offers cool temperatures in the summer. Please note that dogs must be on a 6-foot leash on National Park Service property. See Details
Pine Tree Loop Trail The dog-friendly Pine Tree Loop Trail is located in Bent Creek Experimental Forest in Avery Creek, NC. It's an easy, 2-mile hike that will take about 1 hour to complete with Fido. This popular trail is wide enough to let bikers easily pass and offers plenty of stream crossings for your dog to splash in. Come during the week, or the off season, to avoid the larger crowds. The Preserve Dog Park The beautiful off-leash Preserve Dog Park is a favorite with local pooches for its lovely trails, nature areas and drinking fountain. This Davidson, NC, recreation area is for residents only, and pets must be licensed and have current rabies vaccinations to visit. Licenses may be purchased at Davidson Town Hall for a fee. Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve Bring your pup to explore the Hemlock Bluffs Nature Preserve in Cary, NC. This pet-friendly recreation area is home to approximately three miles of nature trails, scenic overlooks and wildlife-watching opportunities. It is a difficult, 2.4 mile hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway that will take about 1.5 hours to complete with Fido. This trail involves a lot of climbing, so be sure you and your dog are in shape before heading out. The views from the summit of Mount Pisgah, one of the highest peaks in the Blue Ridge range, are spectacular. Dogs must be on a 6-foot leash or shorter. See Details
