Augusta Springs Wet Lands This dog-friendly trail meanders through wetland habitats surrounded by hardwood forest interspersed with pines. Two large ponds are home to nesting wood duck and are patrolled by resident green and great blue herons. Nesting species include common yellowthroat, red-winged blackbird, blue-gray gnatcatcher, cedar waxwing, American goldfinch, and occasionally, blue-winged warbler. In migration, look for migrants such as wood thrush and scarlet tanager. Dogs must be leashed. See Details
Pet Friendly Chesapeake Arboretum
Chesapeake Arboretum Bring Fido to explore the pet-friendly Chesapeake Arboretum in Chesapeake, VA. This 51-acre park features 3.5 miles of shaded walking trails spotted with displays of flora, a manmade creek that flows through the area, and 11 bridges for you and your pup to cross. Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historic State Park Fido is welcome to join you at the pet-friendly Sailor's Creek Battlefield Historic State Park in Rice, VA. Enjoy a variety of trails ranging from 0.1 to 0.9 miles long with your furry friend. You can also learn about the history of this area from the interpretive signs throughout the park. Please note that pets must be on a leash under six feet and you must bring proof of current rabies vaccination. Pets are not allowed in designated swimming areas or indoor public facilities and must be cleaned up after. See Details
Crabtree Falls Bring Fido to the pet-friendly and majestic Crabtree Falls, which is the highest vertical-drop cascading waterfall east of the Mississippi River, and is located in Montebello, VA. This waterfall features a series of five major cascades and a number of smaller ones that fall a total distance of 1,200 feet. The first overlook is just a few hundred feet from the upper parking lot along a gentle, paved trail, making it an excellent stopover for travelers of all ages and abilities. The more adventuresome hiker may continue along the 2.5-mile Crabtree Falls Trail to four other overlooks offering spectacular views of the falls and the Tye River Valley. Leashed dogs are welcome. Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD) The Washington and Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park (W&OD) is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Previously an unused railroad corridor, this "rail-trail" is now a great place to walk Fido in Purcellville! Snead Farm Loop Snead Farm Loop is pet-friendly. This moderate trek is a 3-mile circuit up to a barn and lookout point in Shenandoah National Park.
