The “Hoppiest” Places to Bring Fido this Easter Weekend

Posted by Lauren Barker

The Easter Bunny may be the official mascot of spring, but he isn't the only one who appreciates good hops! Whether it’s the courtyard of a craft brewery, a trendy restaurant patio, or a hike through nature, find your “hoppy” place on one of these dog-friendly adventures this Easter weekend.

Hoppin’ Around Connecticut

Beer enthusiasts and their brew dogs will enjoy a trio of stops on an Easter weekend trip through Connecticut, as featured in the latest edition of our book, Ruff Guide to the United States. Start your jaunt with a visit to Hop Culture Farms & Brewing Co. in Colchester to see the craft brewing process in action. Continue your dog crawl to Yankee Cider Company in East Haddam. There, you can sample a New England Dry or Honeycrisp Blend in the cider barn alongside your pooch. Finally, head 8 miles east to Devil’s Hopyard State Park to exercise your furry friend along the half-mile Chapman Falls Loop.

Once you and Fido are finished hoppin’ across the state, kick up your feet and paws at Saybrook Point Resort & Marina. This waterfront haven combines small-town charm with big-city elegance, offering luxury rooms and suites tastefully decorated in warm tones that convey a cozy, at-home ambiance. Four-legged guests receive tasty treats and sporty bandanas upon arrival. Two dogs of any size are welcome for an additional fee of $45 per night.

Begin your Easter weekend with Saturday brunch on the pet-friendly patio of Hopscotch Kitchen & Bar in Oklahoma City. Order the Three Eggs Omelet and wash it down with a $1 mimosa. Afterwards, grab Fido’s basket and head to Easter Paws at Myriad Botanical Garden to have his picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Pre-registration is required. While you’re there, let your pooch run off-leash in the Myriad Botanical Gardens Dog Park. Round out the day with a hoppy IPA and a beer cheese steak sandwich on the patio of Deep Deuce Bar & Grill, where happy hour is celebrated every day.

Just a block from Deep Deuce Grill you’ll find all the amenities you and your pooch will need for a comfortable stay at the Aloft Oklahoma City Downtown Bricktown, including craft brews in the W XYZ bar and Deep Deuce Dog Park, located just behind the hotel. Two dogs of any size are permitted for no additional fee.

Hop to the Beat in Music City

Start your Nashville Easter weekend with Fido by having brunch at Hopsmith Tavern in Midtown. Order a smokehouse omelet and for dessert, a pint of Yazoo Goo Goo Cluster brown ale. Then swing over to The Gulch for Hops & Crafts, where you’ll receive $1 off all beers all day on Sunday while you and your pooch enjoy city views from the patio. Continue down 12th Avenue South to shop at pet-friendly stores like White’s Mercantile, Draper James and Imogene + Willie. While you’re there, fill up a growler to go with one of 24 rotating beers at The Filling Station.

After a full day, let Fido kick up his paws at Kimpton Aertson Hotel, just down the street from Hopsmith Tavern and on the edge of historic Music Row and Vanderbilt University. Your pup will be treated to a bed, bowls and treats during his stay. Pets of any size are accepted for no additional fee.

A Hoppy Day in Raleigh

Spring has sprung in the Carolinas, and The Hop Yard NC in Raleigh is welcoming furry guests on their outdoor patio and inside the store and bar. Try one of the 28 rotating craft beers on tap, wine, meads, cider or kombucha. Stop in with Fido on Easter Sunday for their weekly Yappy Hour. Then head across town to the North Carolina Museum of Art and walk with your pup for 2 miles through wooded trails, contemporary gardens and public art installations. Before the day ends, stop by House of Hops for dinner from one of the visiting food trucks and a draft or bottled beer on the dog-friendly heated patio.

You won’t have to travel far for a good night’s rest. Ramada Inn Blue Ridge is just a half-mile from the North Carolina Museum of Art and the Reedy Creek Trail, which is perfect for walking Fido. The hotel also features rooms with exterior entrances, making it easy to take your pup for walks. Two pets with a combined weight of up to 100 lbs are welcome for an additional fee of $25 per stay.

Hoppy Hounds in San Antonio

Whether you’re ready for a friendly game of cornhole or ping-pong, craving loaded tots and a cold brew, or just want to hang with your best friends, Hops & Hounds has it all. Bring your scruffy socialite to play in the fenced dog park featuring separate areas for large and small pups and age- and size-appropriate equipment in each area. Grab an umbrella picnic table outside, or take your craft beer or margarita to a retro lawn chair in the dog park. When Fido is worn out, head to nearby Woof Gang Bakery to fill up his Easter basket with gourmet dog treats. Then top off the day with dinner and a flight of beer, whiskey or tequila at The Hoppy Monk's outdoor patio and beer garden.

Stay nearby at dog-friendly Drury Inn & Suites San Antonio North. Your tired pup can rest his paws after a long day, and he’ll receive treats at the front desk during check-in. Two pets with a combined weight of 80 lbs are accepted for an additional fee of $35 per pet, per night.

Hop Along Route 66

Travel down Route 66 with Fido and stop at Hops on Birch for an Easter Sunday funday in Flagstaff, AZ. Dogs are welcome on their patio for a game of cornhole, and inside the taproom where you can play a game of darts while sipping on a tasty IPA. Next, head a few blocks over to Mother Road Brewing Company, order grub from the Roadside Stove food trailer, and relax on the patio in the warm Arizona sunshine. If you prefer to get your hops on the trail rather than in your brew, explore the Coconino National Forest with your pup by taking a 3.5-mile out and back adventure along the Mars Hill Trail that begins just across the street from Thorpe Bark Park.

Spend the weekend at the Residence Inn by Marriott Flagstaff in the heart of downtown. Humans can enjoy a free hot breakfast, and Fido will be thankful for Wheeler Park located just across the street. Two pets of any size are permitted for an additional fee of $100 per stay.

Grab an egg-cellent Easter Sunday brunch and a mimosa at Boxcar at Hop City's pet-friendly patio. Afterwards, stroll up the block with your good boy to Best End Brewing Co. and order a pint of Bitter Bunny Pale Ale. Spend the rest of the afternoon exploring 3 miles of trails on the west side of the Atlanta Beltline, admiring public art displays and some of Atlanta’s oldest and most historic neighborhoods. Next, grab a pet-friendly Uber and head over to the east side of the Beltline and stop in Park Tavern for the hazy tropical hops of a Sunset IPA while enjoying views of Piedmont Park and the Atlanta skyline.

Stay at The Highland Inn in the trendy Poncey Highlands neighborhood and easily hop on the Beltline to Virginia Highlands or Little Five Points for more pet-friendly restaurants and attractions like Neighbor’s Pub and Freedom Park. Two pets up to 75 lbs are welcome for an additional fee of $75 per stay.

Live the Hoppy Life in Kansas City

Bring your photogenic pup to Bar K Dog Bar on Saturday, April 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to have his picture taken with the Easter Bunny. A day pass membership is required. While you’re there, order brunch and a Beer Paws craft beer for Fido, then let him run free in the dog park and hop in the tennis ball pit while you sip on a draft IPA. Of course, no trip to Kansas City would be complete without barbecue, so head to Char Bar for dinner and order a hoppy cold one while you play a game of cornhole in the beer garden.

Rest up with your pup at Hotel Indigo Kansas City Downtown, located in the Power and Light District, a nine-block neighborhood with restaurants, shopping and live entertainment. Two dogs of any size are accepted for $40 per pet, per stay.
