Fido’s Favorite Breweries

Posted by Billy Francis

The U.S. is home to more than 9,000 breweries, and like yeast in a barrel, these numbers keep multiplying. Often housed in former industrial buildings or warehouses with outdoor seating areas, it’s common for these establishments to allow Fido to join you for a pint. However, some hop spots go above and beyond to make pups feel welcome. So, grab a growler with your “growler” at this 12-pack of pet-friendly breweries Fido is sure to dig.

O.H.S.O. Brewing

According to Phoenix’s O.H.S.O. Brewery & Distillery, their establishments are “about good beer, tasty food, neighbors & their dogs, not necessarily in that order.” Visit their pet-friendly Arcadia location and you’ll quickly agree. From the hundreds of framed dog photos donning their walls to the “Barking Bar,” a line of taps that dispense water for Fido, there’s no denying this brewery and restaurant is a doggie gold mine. Use the back entrance with canine murals to enter the shaded outdoor patio and follow the paw prints to a table, picking up a pack of yummy treats along the way. Fans and misters keep “pawtrons” cool on warm days and there are hooks for attaching leashes. Order delicious craft brews like the staple BOOM Dynamite IPA or ask what seasonals are on tap.

Stay a short drive away at Aloft Phoenix Airport and swing by the brewery’s Gilbert location, The Park at O.H.S.O. Brewery, where Fido can play in the onsite dog park while you catch a movie or the big game on the giant TV, play yard games or listen to live music.

You’ll know you’ve arrived at Barker Brewhouse when you spot the giant dog mural on the side of the building. From the flight boards to the stained glass, the canine them is scattered throughout this Southern Indiana craft beer taphouse and nano brewery. Fido can join you inside or on the outdoor patio while you enjoy one of over 30 beers on tap including rotating house beers, or grab something from the huge selection of cans and bottles. While you’re there, play a board game, throw some darts or try your hand at pinball. Food trucks are often on site, but if you’re in the mood for a snack, grab a bowl of complimentary popcorn to share with your pooch. Be sure to check out the swag selection for cool dog-centric gear to take home, too.

Stay with your pup in the heart of downtown at DoubleTree by Hilton Evansville, which is also a short walk to the Ohio Riverfront where Fido can enjoy an evening stroll.

The beaming smile on every glass is Benny, the owners’ beloved yellow Lab, whose big grin keeps “paw-trons” flocking back. Dogs are welcome both on the patio and inside the taproom where you’ll see the canine theme flowing throughout. Hear live music, play arcade games, and pick up dog-centric swag for yourself and for Fido.

Five brewery dogs can be found visiting guests in the dog-friendly outdoor seating area and in the brewery’s on-site dog park. While Fido hangs out with his new pals in the fenced space, you can enjoy a pint of brews like Avery Peak and Copper Dog, both named after four-legged brew hands. You may also catch a glimpse of another furry employee, a grey cat named Gary who also enjoys meeting visitors and receiving pets. Grab a pint of his namesake beer, Scary Gary’s Do Good Ale, an ever-changing pilot beer with Gary on the label. A portion of the proceeds from each pint of Gary’s ale goes to an animal rescue.
