Inspired by the 16th-century Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, Germany, one of the best pet-friendly Christmas markets around the world it's known for the vendors’ high-quality gifts and food. Fill your stocking with Christmas cheer, commemorative Chicagoan baubles and scrumptious snacks.

Bass Pro Shops Santa’s Wonderland

Bass Pro Shops is known for stocking a variety of useful outdoor goods, but the chain is getting a reputation as the place to be during the festive season, too. Bass Pro Shops Santa’s Wonderland will be open throughout the season at stores across the country. Bring your dog along to sniff out cool leashes and accessories, then swing by Santa’s Wonderland for a free photo with Kris Kringle. Online reservations are required.

Holly Dickens Festival

Located at the opposite end of Christmas, MI, Holly is a seriously jolly destination. Starting at the end of November, dress your dog up as Bullseye, Bill Sikes’ dog in “Oliver Twist,” and attend the annual Holly Dickens Festival. The event is the oldest Dickens Festival in the United States. Wrap Tiny Tim up in his warmest sweater and enjoy a light parade, Santa Claus photos, Yule eats and treats, fun activities and reenacted scenes from the greatest Christmas story of them all, “A Christmas Carol.”

Holly Dickens Festival will be held November 27 through December 12.

Solvang Julefest

Experience the Danish charm of Solvang at Christmas. While this California town isn’t likely to see snow or freezing temperatures, the spirit of the holiday season is enough to make you and your canine traveler feel like you’re in Denmark. The Solvang Julefest features lights, Santa’s Village, a tree-lighting ceremony, a parade, and a nativity pageant.

Solvang Julefest will be held from November 27 through January 1.

Nantucket Noel's Christmas Stroll

Paws in the air if you want to go “Dachshund through the snow” at Nantucket Noel's Christmas Stroll. The 47th annual weekend wander through downtown Nantucket will include the arrival of Santa Claus on his nautical “sleigh” plus Victorian-themed carolers, the Magical Talking Tree, Christmas crafts, a market, and judging of the town’s storefront decorating competition.
