Farm-To-Table Restaurants

Posted by Erin Ballinger

Dining at restaurants that serve local and seasonal food helps us be conscious consumers who care for animals and the planet. And, dog-friendly farm-to-table dining experiences teach customers about food while supporting local farmers. Bring Fido to one of these restaurant patios for a meal fresh from the farm.

Located within the pet-friendly Lockwood Hotel, Front + Main is a culinary canine’s dream come true. Doggie diners can find a spot under a shady umbrella on the outdoor patio and order delicious items from the “Pawtio Menu” like mussels, a turkey dinner, dog beer and even a cookies & cream dessert. Of course, there are plenty of creative and nourishing cuisine options for humans as well, including burgers, pan-roasted salmon and griddled vegetable cakes, all sourced from Maine’s farms, fields, bays and oceans. Top it off with a drink from the full bar or order yourself a frozen key lime pie for dessert.

You and your pooch won’t have to travel far on a full belly when you stay at Lockwood Hotel. Check into your cozy room and Fido will receive yummy treats, fun chew toys and a stylish bandana.

In America’s Heartland, The Farmhouse utilizes the "tip-to-tail" method, meaning less waste. Dine on the patio with your pooch at this dog-friendly restaurant serving comfort food sourced from farmers in Kansas and Missouri. At its weekend brunch, your furry foodie will be begging for a bite of your biscuits and gravy, vegan hash, garden frittata, or country-fried steak. But he probably won’t share the fresh bowl of water served to him.

A trip to the Hamptons is an escape to “pawradise” for your four-legged friend. Jean-Georges at Topping Rose House is one of numerous establishments that welcomes Fido. The farm-to-table restaurant is a casually elegant eatery that celebrates the seasons with sophisticated cuisine using ingredients grown on the property's one-acre farm and sourced from the area's farmers and fishermen. Enjoy noshes like Wagyu beef tenderloin, roasted Maine lobster in chili butter with shoestring potatoes, and fontina cheese pizza with black truffle at the communal tables on the dog-friendly outdoor patio. Snagging a reservation can be tricky so plan accordingly, but walk-ins are always welcome for breakfast.

Stay overnight at Topping Rose House, or book a pet-friendly room at nearby Southampton Inn.

While you tuck into dishes like whole-roasted branzino and truffle aioli fries at Eveleigh, your pup will rest comfortably underneath your pergola-shaded patio table on the faux grass. Weekend brunch is a “pupular” affair where you can order sides of eggs, bacon or chicken for your hungry hound. In addition to serving amazing farm-to-table fare and cocktails, this trendy restaurant on West Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard is a great spot to “stargaze.”

Enjoy celestial views from the for-guests-only rooftop terrace when you book a room nearby at the Chamberlain West Hollywood with Fido.

Just outside Baltimore at The White Oak Tavern, the best local, seasonal, and sustainable meats and produce are used for pub-style menu items. Sit on the pup-friendly, fenced patio where Fido can lap up cool local tap water and enjoy a treat like a peanut butter ball or grilled chicken from the tavern’s dog menu. While he chows down, you can munch on dry-aged, grass-fed beef burgers or vegetarian pasta primavera paired with a microbrew on tap. If your pooch is a really good boy (and of course he is), order a Bowl-O-Bacon to share; it’s housemade, nitrate-free and brown sugar-cured!

Book dog-friendly accommodations at Hotel Revival Baltimore, a boutique hotel that welcomes large canines and their owners and doesn’t charge a pet fee.
