Neglected hotel hidden behind a nice facade.

La Quinta by Wyndham Albuquerque West

I've given 2/5 bone reviews to worse motels, but La Quinta Inns are hotels. I am rating this in comparison to other La Quintas where I've stayed and this is easily the worst.

It's near I-40 which is convenient for the access, though locals will warn you this is a high crime area so don't keep belongings visible in your car. In fact, I suggest doing as we did and bringing everything into your room. Lock your car then double-check your doors are locked. I live in a big city and I'll tell you right now, do NOT walk alone in areas like this late at night. Stay on the hotel grounds inside the gated area and if you need to go to the gas station, drive there. Lots of shady characters hanging around in crowds at the cheaper motels nearby and the gas stations. 99/100 times there is drug, prostitution, and/or organized theft activity going down and no good will come from crossing paths with these people.

There are many restaurants nearby but they're mostly fast food/chains. The hotel grounds are adequate: parking, plenty of areas for dogs to do their business, pet waste bins and bag dispensers. They have a cute mini-store with snacks and soda (not vending machines).

Now for all the negative experiences. If you're going to be open during COVID and generate revenue then you still need to maintain basic functionality of your property. I'm not accepting the excuse that all these problems happened in the last year and COVID is preventing you from fixing them. First, we check-in and get our keys but the card reader of the entrance door on the other side of the hotel near our room is broken! We get to haul our luggage all the way back around the other side. So fun after a 9 hour drive. Then we walk across the entire hotel's interior to our room and the keys don't work in our assigned room! YAY I WANT TO KILL SOMEONE! Apparently multiple customers are having this problem. Whatever system is programming your room keys needs to be fixed. We get the keys fixed and now we get to enjoy the failure that is the door handles. Pushing down, like a normal door handle..., does not work. We have to either jiggle the handle several times or pull up. It's a mystery because either technique is not a guarantee at any given time??

We got one washcloth put in our room for two people. The carpet is covered in stains. I understand pet-friendly hotels can't replace carpet constantly because it isn't financially feasible. You can still shampoo the carpet, which is also quite effective at upholding COVID protocols. These clearly haven't been cleaned in a month, possibly longer. They were very gross. The mattresses are very old, super soft, and sink in the middle. Do not stay here if you have a bad back. You've been warned.

NO NO NO NO NO NO

Motel 6 Salt Lake City UT - Downtown

They need to allow zero bones. Listen to my advice for the love of God. I don't care how desperate you are for a room. You are to avoid this motel like the plague. I stay in several motels/hotels every year and this has to be the worst motel in America. There aren't many reviews here but go check out the Yelp page for this location. Do not think "maybe my room will be different". It will be as bad if not worse.

This is my experience from a couple years past. It is burned into my skull. All hours of the day the shadiest characters you can possibly imagine will be loitering around the grounds of this motel. It's so bad they won't even put towels in your room. You have to go to the desk and ask for them. Drug dealers, pimps, hookers, thieves, and junkies loiter around the property at all hours of the day. Once the sun goes down it's like pouring water on gremlins, and they multiply five times over.

The linens had cigarette burns all over them with holes right in the sheets. The room smelled so badly of cigarette smoke that my skin felt like it was burning. My dog was absolutely terrified of going into the room. I made the stupid mistake of removing my shoes, and I walked to the bathroom and back to find the bottom of my socks a rancid dark yellow color from the smoke/drug matter that was caked onto the floor. The ceiling and walls of the bathroom had poop smeared on them. How the cleaners don't bother to take care of this is utterly beyond my understanding. The trashcan had a used needle. There was hair on the toilet seat. The TV was like 20 years old but we honestly didn't care because we were too terrified to touch the remote control.

The noise outside all night long was unbearable. The degenerates were blasting stereos on car hoods while sending hookers to various rooms. I kept peeking through the curtains to make sure they weren't vandalizing our car. We literally had nowhere else to go as I called every other dog-friendly hotel and they were booked solid. This was the most upsetting travel experience I've ever had. We picked out some replaceable undergarments (cheap undershirts and an old blanket for our dog) and used them to separate us from the bed. That is how we slept. The next day we threw the undergarments and blanket in the garbage. Sleeping under a highway overpass would have been cleaner than this dump.

I still carry guilt of my dog being genuinely scared of that room. She stayed whining by the door for most of the night until we gave her some Melatonin and coaxed her onto the blanket.

No complaings, perfect with dirt cheap COVID rates

La Quinta by Wyndham Flagstaff

Couldn't believe we got this room for $73/night. Better than many $200 rooms I've stayed in. Very clean, convenient electrical layout, great grounds for the dog. Seems like a very safe area. Will definitely stay here again when in Flagstaff.

Best possible combination of price and cleanliness.

Winnemucca Holiday Motel

This place was a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend it for anyone doing an overnight in Winnemucca. Extremely inexpensive, very clean, no carpet. The property itself doesn't have much grass but there is some open space just around the corner no more than a minute walk. Beds were comfortable and no icky feelings whatsoever. We also highly recommend the Bakkara Basque Bistro a few blocks down.

It's not 5/5 like a 3*+ hotel would be, but it deserves the exposure for being a cheap motel that makes for a clean and pleasant stay since they are getting harder and harder to find.

Kinda gross honestly.

Days Inn by Wyndham Grand Junction

The rating on this place needs to be brought down a few bones. I know it's a cheap motel but the gross conditions these franchise motels are allowed to exist in needs to stop. Do health codes not apply? It's nowhere near as bad as most Motel 6s, but it's worse than many motels I've stayed at under $100. It's not among the absolute worst so I'll give it 2/5, but I will never stay here again.

I was excited about the dog area they advertise. Reality: all rooms for pet owners are relegated to a back alley that stinks of dog crap, has unmowed grass that hides dozens of piles, and if the smell greeting you at your door isn't bad enough, it permeates the hallway with the vending and ice machines as well.

I get really frustrated when people don't pick up after their dogs, but as a business you are obligated to maintain your grounds in a way that is healthy and safe for your customers. Some of these pies were so dry they must've been there for days and no one cleaned it up. Absolutely disgusting.

The carpet in the room was badly stained throughout, and the bathroom tile had stains as well. Disgusting.

A filthy chewed up toy from a previous pet was left under the bed. The ice machine spits out two cubes every 15 seconds. The electrical outlets are extremely loose and one of my chargers couldn't even hold a charge. No easy access outlets near the bed. They're all ground level, behind furniture, or at the desk with the wobbly chair.

The cherry on the turd sundae was a strung out, heavily tattooed junkie who loitered around the property all evening before sitting outside our door and blasting "Face Down, Ass Up" through his phone speakers.
