Nice walking path
Big River Estuary State Marine Conservation AreaAfter finding out most state parks don't allow dogs on their hiking trails, we had one ranger recommend Big River (drive on Highway 1, turn on to the side road Big River Rd and it leads you to parking). There is a lot of beach space for walking, surfing, and hanging out. And there is also a pathway that goes on for several miles (I think about 12, but we only walked about 2 before turning around). The path is wide and gravelly and is pretty flat. Not quite the hike we were looking for, but it was a nice nature walk beside the river and there are some redwoods as you walk. We also saw a few cyclists as well on the trail.
Lovely place
Mendocino Coast Botanical GardensWe had no problem bringing our dog in to the gardens. They have quite a lot of space to walk around. Like others have said, it is about 1.5 hours to see the entirety of the gardens.
No dogs allowed on trails!
Russian Gulch State ParkWhile they do allow you to enter the park with your dog, you are extremely limited with the activities you can do with your dog. The website said your dog can only be allowed on trails west of Highway 1 (which isn't much. Most of the trails are east of the highway). We were disappointed as we thought we could take a long hike with our dog. Please check out the local park's websites first before bringing your dog to a local park.
Fee is $8 per car for entry, but it is good on any state park that day in case you want to visit others.
Good food and space to eat
Frankie's Pizza and Ice CreamThey have plenty of outdoor seating for individuals to eat while having your dog with you.
